Kriminalvården is Growing – We are Expanding and Looking for More Employees
Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.
Viskan Prison is a closed facility that started receiving inmates in March 2025. The largest professional group is correctional officers, but we also employ healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, and more. The inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or industrial production. Viskan Prison is easiest to reach by car, and staff parking is available.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with the client. The tasks at the prison are varied and include care, surveillance, searches, and security work, combined with release planning, conversations, and motivational work. The work at the detention center is often routine-oriented and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may sometimes be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than the staff at the detention center, which places special demands on your ability to create structure, security, and respectful interactions in daily life.
Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for others and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop. You will become part of a safe and engaged work community where cooperation, responsibility, and respect are central values.
With us, you get more than a summer job – you gain experience that strengthens you for the future, regardless of where your career takes you. A summer position with us can lead to continued employment within the agency.
QUALIFICATIONS
Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
- Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Please note that internships and volunteer work do not count as employment.
- Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
- Good computer skills.
- Driver's license (B).
It is an advantage if you have:
- Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, or conflict management.
- Work experience in corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social services.
