The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focus on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and in the environment. We are responsible for doctoral education in the field of Natural Sciences with a focus on chemistry, biophysics, biology, and educational science. Additionally, the department hosts educational programs in molecular biology, genomics and systems biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and pharmaceutical chemistry, as well as the pharmacy program.
The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education, and strongly contributes to Gothenburg University's top ranking in life sciences. The department's activities are conducted in Natrium, Medicinareberget in Gothenburg.
We are looking for a researcher to join our research group for six months (https://dbojar.com/bojar-lab/ (https://dbojar.com/bojar-lab/)). The successful candidate will develop, evaluate, and implement new AI models to process glycomics data from mass spectrometry for improved throughput, reliability, and biological insights.
Responsibilities
You will develop and use AI models to predict glycan sequences from mass spectrometry data. Examples of techniques include fine-tuning models, evaluating new metrics for model quality, biological case studies, and code development for the platforms glycowork and CandyCrunch.
Qualifications
Eligible for the position: to be employed as a researcher, the candidate must have obtained a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than at the time the employment decision is made. Primarily, the candidate should have obtained a doctoral degree no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been obtained earlier.
Requirements for the position:
- PhD in molecular biology or bioinformatics
- Documented knowledge in machine learning
- Documented knowledge in glyco-biology
Meritorious for the position:
- Good knowledge of mass spectrometry
Employment
The employment is a fixed-term position for six months full-time, based at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology. Start: May 2026
