University of Gothenburg meets societal challenges with versatile knowledge. 58,000 students and 6,800 employees make the university a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive education attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future.
At the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology at Sahlgrenska Academy, extensive research and teaching are conducted across large knowledge areas - from molecule to human. The activities consist of five sections: pharmacology, physiology, health and rehabilitation, clinical neuroscience, and psychiatry and neurochemistry.
The Department of Neuroscience and Physiology is now seeking a postdoctoral researcher to be placed at the Section of Pharmacology.
The aim of the position is to develop GRAB photometry to measure neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine and dopamine in real-time during complex behaviors in experimental animals.
Responsibilities
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will participate in a project aimed at establishing GRAB photometry, both ex vivo and in vivo.
You will be responsible for purchasing equipment and materials required to set up a complete system, as well as incorporating the equipment with existing techniques currently used in the lab. Once GRAB photometry is established, you are expected to work independently and conduct experiments on your own. You are also expected to handle experimental animals and perform simpler behavioral studies.
Your responsibilities will also include analyzing and compiling data for publication in scientific journals. These analyses will, in addition to GRAB photometry, include data obtained through electrophysiological measurements.
Qualifications
For this position, you should have at least a master's degree in medicine or natural sciences with a focus on pharmacology or neuroscience. You should have prior experience with photometry or similar techniques. You should also have experience with practical animal experimentation. A good knowledge of neurophysiology and neurotransmission is a requirement for the position.
It is advantageous if you have documented experience in neurophysiological studies, particularly electrophysiology, as this is one of the main techniques that will be used in the project.
You should be able to communicate fluently in English, both orally and in writing, and have the ability to work both independently and in a team. We place great importance on personal suitability.
Employment
The position is a temporary employment for 9 months, 100% full-time, with placement at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology. Start date: as soon as possible or by agreement.
