At the southernmost part of Dalarna lies Avesta. Avesta is an old industrial town with drive and faith in the future. In Avesta, you will find a mix of nature and culture with good communication to both the city and the mountains.

Avesta Hospital, inaugurated in 1922, consists of an internal medicine and geriatric clinic. The hospital has a catchment area of about 40,000 and is a local hospital with an emergency department open 24/7. A large part of the work is located in the emergency department where you work independently with active on-call support, during the day and evening as well as on weekends. At the hospital, we work closely together which provides you with good collegial support. The surgical part of the residency is done at Falu Hospital and includes night shifts. Within psychiatry, inpatient care is conducted in Säter and Falun, and outpatient care in Avesta. The primary care placement is done at one of the health centers in southern Dalarna.

Residency in Avesta - Region Dalarna is looking for our future specialists

It is now time to apply for residency starting in mid-August or mid-November 2026.

Our setup:

• 6 months of internal medicine specialties with service at Avesta Hospital
• 6 months of surgical specialties at Falu Hospital or Mora Hospital
• 3 months of psychiatry within the joint inpatient care clinic in Falun and Säter, as well as outpatient care in Borlänge or Avesta
• 6 months of general medicine, located in Avesta and Hedemora municipalities

We are looking for someone with high social competence and good judgment. You are easy to collaborate with while having a good ability to lead. You are mature, motivated, and have good self-awareness. You possess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to successfully perform the work as a resident physician.

We are seeking our future specialists and would like you to have an interest in a more long-term collaboration and a desire to contribute to the development of the operations together with us in southern Dalarna.

Formal qualifications:

You must have a Swedish medical degree at the start of the residency and be able to present the corresponding diploma or the Socialstyrelsen's decision on residency. You should have good knowledge of the Swedish language. If Socialstyrelsen requires a legislative course, this must be approved at the time of application.

• Socialstyrelsen's decision on residency (if you studied abroad)
• Certificate of approved legislative course (if required by Socialstyrelsen)
• Certificates and/or recommendation letters from previous healthcare-related jobs
• Contact information for at least two current references from healthcare-related jobs you have worked closely with.

You do not need to send your diploma as an attachment to your application, but you should be able to present it if you proceed in the recruitment process.

As your service involves commuting, you must be able to show that you hold a driver's license for a manual transmission.
