Department of Medicine, Dermatology, and Rheumatology
We are Uppsala University Hospital – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer services to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is celebrated as a hero. With us, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, in a strong community with colleagues. See parts of our reality in our photo exhibition; akademiskafotoutstallning.se (http://akademiskafotoutstallning.se). Welcome with your application!
As a nursing student, we give you the opportunity to work with us as a temporary employee. You will have an exciting job where you meet patients of different ages and situations, where you are part of making a difference in their lives.
Our Operations
We are a department with combined expertise and highly specialized care. Most of our patient groups have chronic diseases, so we follow them from diagnosis and throughout their lives, with more or less frequent intervals. A total of about 700 people work within the department, which operates in the specialties of Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Dermatology, and Endocrinology/Diabetes.
We offer a wide range of areas to deepen your knowledge in, where it is possible to broaden your competence under the same roof over time, and hopefully, we can offer something for everyone. This increases the opportunity to stay and grow with us. Employment with us means a varied and developing job where you can create a broad competence that makes a difference for the patients you care for.
We are now looking for you who are interested in a temporary position with us in 100B1.
Rheumatology and Dermatology Ward 100B1
100B1 has 7 beds, and here we care for patients from three of the department's medical specialties; rheumatology, dermatology, and endocrinology/diabetes. The patient groups have autoimmune conditions, inflammatory systemic diseases, over- or underproduction of any hormone, hereditary metabolic diseases, and various types of skin diseases often with complex wounds. Our patients come planned from home, subacute from our own clinics, or via the hospital's emergency department. We work to see the whole patient and are responsible for their care needs from a person-centered approach.
Introduction
The introduction offered is individually tailored and depends on what experience you bring with you. During the introduction, you will work with some selected mentors, both to see different ways to solve tasks and also to naturally get to know your colleagues.
Your Assignment
Nursing Student Year 1-2
As a nursing student in years 1 and 2, you have the opportunity to work with lighter patient-related tasks. The work may involve caring for an individual patient who needs extra supervision to make them feel safe, as well as assisting with lighter nursing tasks.
Nursing Student Year 3-4
As a nursing student from year 3, you have the opportunity to work with several patient-related tasks. The work includes being responsible for basic nursing care such as performing NEWS checks, ADL, mobilization, and evaluating general well-being. There is also the possibility of delegation in wound care, glucose and ketone checks, ECG, venipuncture, and catheter placement.
Nursing Student Year 5-6
As a nursing student from year 5, you also have the opportunity to work with an extended assignment. This means that you receive extended delegations and work part-time as a nursing resource. The extended delegations may include IV insertion, subcutaneous injections, and admission of new patients. The primary patient and medication responsibility lies with the licensed nurse.
Your Qualifications
You should value good communication in the team and flexibility during the work shift to distribute the work. We are a small workgroup, and there is close collaboration between us where we dare to ask and help each other. The fact that many of our patients are recurring allows for the opportunity to establish a closer relationship with them. Therefore, you should enjoy working with the medical and recurring patient group.
We Offer
We offer you a special fixed-term employment, a so-called temporary position as a nursing assistant. This allows for scheduling during the summer and then the opportunity to work extra during the semesters. The employment lasts for about 1 year but can preferably be extended continuously throughout your study period.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability. We conduct interviews continuously during the application period, and appointments may occur before the application deadline. So do not wait to submit your application to us!
With us, you will receive benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).
