Our Operations

Do you want to develop as a doctor in an environment where a holistic view, clinical judgment, and teamwork are important components? The Geriatrics department at Uppsala University Hospital is now looking for junior doctors who want to make a real difference for elderly patients with complex care needs.

With us, you will meet the multi-sick elderly patient, often with several concurrent diseases, disabilities, and often palliative needs. Geriatrics is the specialty where medical breadth, communication, and collaboration become crucial, and where you as a doctor get the opportunity to work closely with the patient and see the whole person. Our mission is to maximize health, function, and quality of life, as well as to provide the best possible care when life approaches its end.

The Geriatrics department at Uppsala University Hospital is part of the Department of Geriatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Pain Center, and provides specialized inpatient care in acute geriatrics, orthopedic geriatrics, and stroke/neurology rehabilitation. We also have a well-functioning outpatient clinic focused on cognitive medicine. As a university hospital, we have a close collaboration with Uppsala University and conduct teaching, research, and development. In our group of about 35 doctors, there are temporary junior doctors, a large group of residents, as well as everything from newly qualified specialists to experienced consultants and lecturers.

Your Mission

As a junior doctor, you will work with standard junior doctor tasks within geriatric inpatient care. The work includes admission and discharge of patients, daily rounds, medical assessments, follow-up of treatments, medication reviews, and documentation. You will actively participate in teamwork together with nurses, nursing assistants, health professionals, and other occupational groups, have contact with relatives, and participate in care planning and collaboration before discharge. You will also be part of our own primary on-call line with a few on-call shifts per month, where you will handle acute medical issues with close support from more experienced colleagues. Introduction, supervision, and adjustment of responsibilities will be based on your level of experience.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has a medical degree, with or without a license, and who wants to work in geriatrics or gain a broad and stable medical foundation. We see that you are a team player who contributes to developed teamwork across professional boundaries. Previous clinical experience is an advantage, but great importance is placed on personal suitability, ability to collaborate, and willingness to develop.

We Offer

With us, you will be offered a developing and educational position with good opportunities for clinical breadth and depth. Many find geriatrics to be one of the most valuable cornerstones for future specialization, regardless of direction.

Start date is from June or earlier by agreement. The length of the temporary position is 6 months with a possible extension. Welcome to a department where your work as a junior doctor is both meaningful and appreciated.

With us, you will receive benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).
