We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer services to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is celebrated as a hero. With us, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, in a strong community with colleagues. See parts of our reality in our photo exhibition; akademiskafotoutstallning.se (http://akademiskafotoutstallning.se). Welcome with your application!
Our Operations
Peritoneal dialysis treatment (bag dialysis, PD) is performed at home, usually by the patient themselves. The PD clinic takes care of the patient from the start of PD with training and education, as well as during the outpatient treatment period.
Nurses and nursing assistants at the PD clinic inform and support prospective patients to take as active a role in their treatment as possible. The training should be individually tailored so that the patient can manage the treatment and feels secure with their self-care. If the patient receives help with their PD treatment, it is referred to as assisted PD. In assisted PD treatment, it is important that those who assist and perform bag changes have received training and are well acquainted with the treatment and know what to observe.
The PD clinic is part of the nephrology outpatient care, which is responsible for the investigation, care, and treatment of various kidney diseases and conducts extensive research and development work. The operations include, in addition to PD, a kidney clinic and two hemodialysis clinics. The PD clinic is part of the Kidney and PD clinic and is open Monday to Friday. The PD clinic has a total of four employees who work closely with the nurses, nursing assistants, and doctors at the kidney clinic, as well as having contact with dietitians, physiotherapists, social workers, and medical technicians.
Your Assignment
The position involves an independent and exciting job where medical technical tasks are integrated into nursing, and at the same time an opportunity to create long-term relationships with patients. The nurse's tasks at the clinic include, among other things:
- Training of patients and in some cases parents (in PD treatment of children) or staff (for example in home care, at residences, and on the wards of Akademiska sjukhuset).
- Home visits to evaluate PD treatments.
- Consultation services – e.g., assisting with PD changes for inpatients at Akademiska sjukhuset's wards, adding medications to the PD bag (antibiotics or heparin) and managing PD catheters.
- Telephone advice to patients, staff, and relatives.
- Own clinic and participation in doctor visits and treatment conferences.
- Contact with PD suppliers, pharmacies.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for a licensed nurse with a few years of experience in nursing and an interest in learning and developing in the field of nephrology. You need to have a B driver's license and experience from dialysis or kidney care – knowledge of PD is an advantage. You are a person who puts the patient in focus, has a professional attitude, is positive, and has a good approach. You enjoy working independently but also have good teamwork skills. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability and quality awareness.
We Offer
We offer a permanent position at 100% at the Kidney and PD clinic starting May 2026. You will be assigned a mentor and receive an individually tailored introduction to the work. Competence development, both practical and theoretical, will then take place continuously.
If you are interested in an independent and exciting nursing job with good working hours, do not hesitate to send us your application. Interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis.
With us, you will receive benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).
