About Gällivare District Court

Gällivare District Court (https://www.domstol.se/gallivare-tingsratt/ (https://www.domstol.se/gallivare-tingsratt/)) is Sweden's northernmost court. Currently, there are twelve employees, including two permanent judges. The court has a case division and an administrative division. The court adjudicates criminal and civil cases and handles a large number of other types of matters. The jurisdiction area includes the municipalities of Gällivare, Kiruna, and Jokkmokk. The mission of the court and its staff is to uphold a legally secure and efficient administration of justice of high quality. Working with us is significant and fulfills one of society's most important functions. The court is located in central Gällivare but also has hearing rooms in Kiruna. From the court's premises, you can see the low mountain Dundret, which is only a ten-minute drive away and provides access to ski slopes, ski trails, backcountry skiing, and hiking. Ski trails are also within walking distance from the court.

Job Responsibilities

As an acting judge, you will play a central role in the court's adjudicative activities and be responsible for ensuring that cases and matters are resolved efficiently and with high quality. You will be responsible for all types of cases and matters that occur at the court. The work also includes mentoring clerks.

This position is advantageous for a future permanent judge position.

Qualifications

To be considered for employment, you must have experience working as a member or clerk in a higher court or have performed the duties of a higher court clerk for at least six months. It is an advantage if you are or have been a permanent judge or a court of appeal assessor/administrative court assessor. Additionally, you must meet the requirements set by the Judicial Appointments Board for permanent judges. We are looking for a skilled and analytical lawyer who has a very good ability to see connections and to identify, analyze, and solve legal challenges. Work at the district court is characterized by a high pace where many different issues need to be handled. Therefore, we seek someone who is inspired by a varied and qualified job and who has the ability to take on different issues and prioritize them appropriately. Naturally, you treat parties and others coming before the court in a manner that instills confidence.

This means that you uphold democratic values and the state values that govern the operations of Sweden's courts. We require you to comply with applicable laws. We place great emphasis on personal qualities.

The employment is a fixed-term position for 6 months or at most 12 months, full-time, with a start date by agreement. Please attach your CV/resume and certificates in your application.
