Legal Advisor Wanted at the Guardianship Unit
The Guardianship Unit operates on behalf of the Guardianship Committee, which is a municipal supervisory authority. The agency ensures that individuals who cannot advocate for their rights due to illness or similar conditions are afforded the same rights as everyone else and are not economically or legally disadvantaged. The unit's mission is to supervise and control guardianship, curatorship, and administration through annual reviews and to make decisions regarding the authorization of various actions that representatives need to perform in their roles. The activities of the Guardianship Unit and the duties of representatives are regulated by the Parent Code. To read more, click here.
A new legislation will be introduced in the guardianship area by summer 2026. This means that the Guardianship Unit will have an expanded and more complex mission, including taking over cases currently handled by the district courts. This is a significant change that will affect both working methods and responsibilities.
For you applying for the position, this means that you will be part of a developing organization, where we will build new routines and processes together to meet the requirements of the legislation. You will have the opportunity to contribute your expertise and help shape the future of the guardianship operations.
The Guardianship Unit handles cases for the municipalities of Nacka, Värmdö, and Vaxholm. The unit has 11 employees, including a team leader and a unit manager.
Your Mission
The position involves qualified legal processing work within the guardianship area. You will handle complex cases involving many parties, focusing on the rights of the individual.
Examples of tasks in the role:
- Processing legal cases such as decisions on consent for real estate and condominium sales, investigating the need for curatorship and administration, as well as correspondence with the court. Court appearances may occur.
- Supervising representatives by reviewing accounting documents and investigating complaints against representatives.
- Reviewing reports on completed assignments and making decisions regarding fees for representatives.
- Drafting service letters to the committee in decisions where delegation is lacking.
Is This You?
We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a difference and improving the quality of life for the most vulnerable in society. You see the big picture, anticipate problems, and plan both short and long-term, allowing you to handle many cases simultaneously with high quality. You quickly identify the essentials and focus on completing tasks. When you need to adapt to new circumstances, you do so with positivity while building trusting relationships with colleagues and collaborators. With high morals and ethics, you always focus on what your mission is and who you are truly serving.
Your Experience
You have a law degree or equivalent education in law and at least one year of experience working with guardianship issues or two years of experience from other public authority work in personal matters or from law firm operations in civil law. You should have good knowledge in civil law and administrative law.
You have a strong ability to assess representatives' accounting documents, which means you can identify discrepancies and ensure that the principal's rights are met.
We value your IT skills, particularly the ability to use various digital tools for efficient processing.
A strong communication ability is important, both written and verbal, to communicate clearly and effectively with various parties, including courts, representatives, and other authorities.
