Northern Sámi Language Supporter for Preschool

Vilhelmina municipality is now looking for an engaged language supporter for our preschools.

We offer a unique opportunity to contribute to preserving and developing the Sámi language and culture for future generations, while you work in a creative and developing environment with competent colleagues.

Your Role

As a Sámi language supporter with us, you actively contribute to strengthening the children's linguistic and cultural identity. You work in accordance with the preschool curriculum and lay the foundation for children's understanding of different languages and cultures, focusing on the Sámi language and culture.

Examples of Work Tasks

• Support the children in their development of the Sámi language through planning, teaching, and documentation.
• Collaborate with the work team to create a safe and stimulating environment where the children's linguistic and cultural development is at the center.
• Be an inspiring and secure role model for both children and colleagues.

We strive for continuity in the work but are flexible and can adapt to needs, from a few shifts a month to several shifts a week, based on agreement.

We are looking for someone who shares our commitment to children's development and understanding of language and culture.

We see that you

• Have knowledge of Northern Sámi
• Experience working in preschool or education is an advantage
• Speak and write Swedish fluently
• Are creative and want to develop the Sámi activities with the child at the center

Practical Information

According to the Education Act, extracts from the police criminal record must be presented by individuals before they are employed in preschool activities, schools, and school-age childcare. The position is a fixed-term employment with the possibility of extension.

About Vilhelmina

Vilhelmina can be described as a 5-minute community. It may be a bit far from larger cities, but once you are there, most things are within reach. In five minutes, you can in the urban areas of Vilhelmina, Saxnäs, and Dikanäs, where we have municipal operations, pick up the children from preschool, go to work, hit the gym after work, or take your skis/running shoes in the illuminated trails, and eat at one of the local cafes and restaurants.
