The Swedish Defence University is an internationally renowned institution in defense, crisis management, and security. We offer a unique academic environment where civilian meets military. We educate civilian and military leaders, experts, and researchers who will analyze and manage today’s and future crisis situations and security problems. The Swedish Defence University trains Sweden's officers and leads the academic development of the officer profession. We conduct research in law focusing on operational law and international law, defense systems, war science, leadership and management, military history, and political science.

About the workplace

The Planning and Finance Department is part of the operational support that coordinates the Swedish Defence University’s overarching processes for planning, monitoring, reporting, environmental management, and performs the university's financial accounting. The Swedish Defence University manages various types of grants and has a significant amount of external funding, commissioned activities, and contributions. This means that the university's financial issues have a wide scope. The department is divided into an accounting, planning, and a controller section. The controller section is now looking for a controller based in Stockholm.

Job responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will be to support the heads of departments and project owners in their work with budgets, forecasts, monitoring, offer calculations, grant management, and some financial administration. You will largely work in the support system Hypergene for budgeting and monitoring. Your tasks will also include contributing to the development and implementation of the university's processes for operational management and other tasks of the department.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who has:

• A university degree in economics or equivalent education or experience that we deem relevant
• Current experience and has worked with budgeting, forecasting, and financial monitoring in the last two years
• Good knowledge of the Office suite, especially Excel
• Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in both Swedish and English, as required in daily work

It is meritorious if you have experience in:

• Financial work in a government agency, preferably within the university or higher education sector
• Financial management of research grants
• Hypergene
• ERP (Agresso)

Personal qualities

We are looking for someone who is self-driven, takes responsibility for their tasks, and moves their work forward. Additionally, you are structured, can plan and prioritize your work effectively. You have a positive attitude and find joy in providing good service to the university's managers and project leaders. As you will operate in a role with multiple contacts and work on joint projects, we see that you have a good ability to collaborate. Furthermore, you have good pedagogical skills and can explain financial relationships in a simple way. We will place great importance on your personal qualities.

About the employment

The position is a permanent full-time employment that begins with a six-month probationary period.

Employment at the Swedish Defence University may involve a security clearance for placement in a security class, which means a background check and, in some cases, a security interview with the Security Police.

The employment may involve military placement. If you are already military placed in your current employment at an agency and your competence is needed in the Swedish Defence University’s military organization, a negotiation will take place between the relevant agency and the Swedish Defence University regarding where you will be placed.
