Family Therapist at Sandviken Family Center

Sandviken Family Center's Family Treatment is the open care service of the Social Services for families with children aged 0–20 years. The unit offers change-oriented interventions on behalf of the investigative units for children and youth.

The unit has a systemic and solution-oriented approach where the path to success is through good relationships and collaborations with both the family and the family's network, as well as with partners such as schools, child and youth health care, adult psychiatry, and more. Family Treatment has a broad methodological foundation and actively works on development to ensure a knowledge-based and evidence-based approach. The unit's mission encompasses everything from shorter preventive and supportive parent conversations to longer and more extensive treatment interventions that include the entire family and their network.

At Family Treatment, 15 family therapists work together with treatment coordinators and the deputy unit manager. The unit has a mix of experiences and educational backgrounds, which we see as a strength. We offer good opportunities for professional development, and the entire workgroup is actively involved in the development of the operations. We have a good and close collaboration with our clients, close leadership, and regular external group supervision.

Cross-municipal benefits we offer include vacation exchange, annual working hours, wellness grants, health-promoting activities, extra vacation days when you turn 40 and 50, and the staff and leisure association Pulsen.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The mission of Family Treatment is to support families so that children and youth receive the right support and care to develop positively, ultimately to avoid children and youth being placed outside their homes. The family therapists are divided into two teams, where one team specializes more in youth issues and school absenteeism for older children, while the other team's expertise focuses more on the needs of younger children and parental support regarding structure and routines at home. The teams are evenly distributed with seven to eight family therapists per team. All family therapists work with acute crisis support and initial treatment work in cases of violence in families, and we have close collaboration between the teams.

Family therapists have a flexible profession that requires the ability to simultaneously handle different forms of issues. The teams are somewhat specialized, but you are expected to want and be able to work with various types of family issues in a solution-oriented manner, as families' needs are often complex. The work is often a combination of individual conversations and family discussions in our premises or in the families' homes. To be considered for the position, you must be able to work early mornings and evenings on two occasions per week. The work includes documentation in the form of ongoing record-keeping of treatment work, creating implementation plans, treatment reports, and final reports.

The deputy unit manager has close leadership in everyday life together with a newly established role; the treatment coordinator, who provides time for support to the operations for resource-efficient and goal-oriented treatment. All work in the operations must be based on knowledge- and evidence-based practice.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with a degree in social work or another academic degree with a behavioral science foundation that the employer deems suitable. It is advantageous to have further training in family treatment methods such as Signs of Safety, Safer Children, network-oriented work, and Functional Family Therapy, as well as several years of experience working with children/youth, parents, and families.

As a family therapist, you need to have patience and a pedagogical approach. In stressful situations, you can act calmly, controlled, and professionally. This means that you are responsible, positive, and a resilient person with the ability to set boundaries. Flexibility is important, and being able to handle various forms of issues in the families we meet is a must for our work, as families' needs are often complex. You take responsibility for your tasks and drive your work forward. You also have good collaborative and relationship-building skills.

As a person, you enjoy learning new things and have a curious approach. You quickly engage and apply treatment methodological knowledge to practical work to ensure an evidence-based approach. You will have access to existing methodology through internal learning and collegial supervision, as well as through external training in methods that the unit needs to strengthen in the future.

If you are someone who is good at bringing out people's willingness to change and can find the development potential in individuals and families, you are the right person for the job. You are structured, proactive, flexible, and persistent, and you have a well-developed ability to create good collaborations with colleagues and partners. You can easily shift focus to put your efforts where they are most needed for the day and manage to maintain structure and keep the goal in sight in demanding situations. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

A driver's license is required.

Experience working with children and families is a requirement.
