About the position
As an IT Operations Technician focused on storage and backup within Karolinska University Hospital, you play a key role in ensuring that critical healthcare IT systems are always available, reliable, and secure. You work with technical solutions that directly impact the ability to provide safe and effective care – where access to the right information at the right time can be crucial.
In this role, you are responsible for the operation, monitoring, and further development of the hospital's storage and backup infrastructure. You ensure that patient records, medical images, research data, and administrative systems are handled securely and regularly, in accordance with applicable requirements for information security, confidentiality, and data protection (including NIS2 and GDPR).
You will be part of an engaged team that works closely with other operations technicians, system administrators, and IT security specialists. Together, you ensure that the hospital's IT environment has high availability, robustness, and recovery capability – around the clock, year-round.
The work is characterized by a high security mindset, a careful structure, and continuous improvement work where you both manage daily operations and participate in development projects, such as the implementation of new storage solutions and automation of backup flows.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- Experience in administration, operation, and troubleshooting of server environments
- Basic knowledge of NAS and SAN environments
- Experience with backup and recovery solutions
- Ability to troubleshoot methodically
- Basic Linux & Windows knowledge
- Understanding of network technology related to storage (e.g., Fibre Channel, iSCSI, Ethernet)
- Good documentation skills and experience working according to established processes (e.g., ITIL)
Meritorious:
- Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, Ansible)
- Knowledge of virtualization and container platforms (VMware, OpenStack, Openshift, Kubernetes) related to storage
- Experience in performance optimization and capacity planning for storage systems
- Knowledge of data protection, encryption, and security aspects related to storage and backup
- Experience working in enterprise environments with high availability and redundancy
- Experience in migration projects of storage solutions
- Experience or certifications in relevant technologies (e.g., IBM ESS & Spectrum Protect, NetApp, Red Hat, Ceph, or similar)
- Experience working in cloud or hybrid environments with storage services (AWS S3, Azure Blob, GCP)
- Knowledge of monitoring and alarm management for storage (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Experience with computing clusters and associated performance/parallel file systems.
