Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Growing – We Are Hiring!

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding on, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transport.

The Transport Department (TA) is tasked with transporting and supervising incarcerated individuals. These are the clients of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service who are moved between remand facilities and prisons, to court hearings, and hospitals, among other places. TA also transports incarcerated individuals for agencies such as the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Swedish Migration Agency, and psychiatry. JOB DESCRIPTION

As a correctional officer within TA, you will be part of a team consisting of two to four people, each responsible for different roles in carrying out client transports. You will encounter a wide variety of clients of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences. You will conduct searches, apply restraints, and supervise the client during transport.

The assignments of TA are varied, meaning that your working hours may change from day to day. Evening, night, and weekend work may be required. The scheduled times are frame times, usually from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Nationally, it is more common to finish before the frame time ends, and in most cases, you will have a consistent start time. Frame time means that the employer can change the start and end times. Changes will be communicated before the previous shift ends. For example, a shift may be from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM (12 hours) or from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (7 hours). Working hours are reviewed every three months. If you work more than planned, you will receive overtime compensation. If you work less, you will still receive your normal salary.

QUALIFICATIONS

The role requires a high level of personal suitability. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. It is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change. You need to have good physical fitness to handle a sedentary job and to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
  • A completed secondary education or other training combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
  • Good computer skills.
  • A valid driver's license (B) and driving experience.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Work experience in corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and social care.
  • Knowledge in relevant areas such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
  • Relevant language skills.
