Corrections Officer Needed for the Transport Department
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand, and client transport.
The Transport Department (TA) is tasked with transporting and supervising detained individuals. These are clients of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service who are moved between remand and prison facilities, to court hearings, and hospitals, among other places. TA also transports detained individuals for the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Swedish Migration Agency, and psychiatry. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a corrections officer within TA, you will be part of a team consisting of two to four people, where everyone is responsible for different roles in the execution of client transports. You will encounter a wide variety of clients of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences. You will search, restrain with handcuffs, and supervise the client during transport.
The tasks of TA are varied, which means that your working hours may change from day to day. Evening, night, and weekend work may be included. The scheduled times are frame times, usually 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Nationally, it is more common to finish before the frame time ends, and in most cases, you will have a consistent start time. Frame time means that the employer can change the start and end times. Changes will be communicated before the previous shift ends. For example, a shift may be between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM (12 hours) or 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM (7 hours). Working hours are reviewed every three months. If you work more than planned, you will receive overtime compensation. If you work less, you will still receive your normal salary.
QUALIFICATIONS
The role places high demands on personal suitability. As a corrections officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. It is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change. You need to have good physical fitness to handle a sedentary job and to be able to act physically when required.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
- Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
- Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
- Good computer skills.
- Class B driver's license and driving experience.
It is advantageous if you have:
- Work experience from corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and social care.
- Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
- Relevant language skills.
