Kriminalvården is hiring correctional officers

Kriminalvården is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding to our existing ones, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand centers, and client transport.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison/remand center are varied: care, surveillance, searches, and security work mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. Work at the remand center is often routine-driven and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the remand center, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer.

Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and belief in human development.

The vacation period refers to weeks 24 through 33, where the employment begins with two weeks of preparatory introduction (weeks 24 and 25). Please note that the paid introduction is mandatory.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment.
  • A complete high school education or other education combined with work experience that Kriminalvården deems relevant.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
  • Good computer skills.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Work experience in correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work.
  • Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
  • Relevant language skills.
