Kriminalvården is Growing – We Are Looking for More Employees

Kriminalvården is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand, and client transport.

The Transport Department (TA) is tasked with transporting and supervising detained individuals. These are Kriminalvården's clients who are moved between remand and prisons, to court hearings, and hospitals, among others. TA also transports detained individuals for the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Migration Agency, and psychiatry. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer within TA, you will be part of a team consisting of two to four people, each responsible for different roles in the execution of client transports. You will encounter a wide variety of clients of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences. You will search, restrain with handcuffs, and supervise the client during transport.

TA's assignments are varied, meaning your working hours may change from day to day. Evening, night, and weekend work may be included. The times in the schedule are frame times, usually 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Nationally, it is more common to finish before the frame time ends, and in most cases, you will have an unchanged start time. Frame time means that the employer can change the start and end times. Changes are communicated before the previous shift ends. For example, a shift can be between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM (12 hours) or 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM (7 hours). Working hours are reviewed every three months. If you have worked more than planned, you will receive overtime compensation. If you have worked less, you will still receive your normal salary.

You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction for two to three weeks. After a summer position, there are good opportunities for further employment as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

The role places high demands on personal suitability. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication.

It is important that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in the potential for human development and change. You need to have good physical fitness to handle a sedentary job and to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
  • Completed high school education or other education combined with work experience deemed relevant by Kriminalvården.
  • Good ability to express oneself verbally and in writing in Swedish.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Category B driver's license and good driving experience.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Work experience in relevant fields, such as corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, healthcare, and service professions.
  • Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
  • Other relevant language skills.
  • Category C driver's license.
