The Stockholm East area includes the two closed prisons Österåker and Täby. Here, we primarily employ correctional officers, but also healthcare staff, teachers, administrators, production leaders, and other important professions. The clients at the prisons are engaged in various activities including education, treatment programs, workshop work, and assembly and packaging tasks – all aimed at creating structure, meaningfulness, and conditions for a better future.

Österåker Prison is in an exciting phase of expansion with new prison places and employment facilities coming into operation between 2025 and 2027. There are great opportunities to grow with the organization – both in terms of the number of employees and in new, exciting roles. The prison is located outside Åkersberga – perfect for those who appreciate avoiding rush hour traffic. The easiest way to get here is by car. Täby Prison is a small facility with a family-like environment and good commuting options. Both prisons offer staff parking.

We care about a health-promoting work environment – therefore, Österåker Prison has a staff gym. There is also a well-regarded staff restaurant where you can eat and socialize with your colleagues.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Österåker Prison is a facility under rapid development where green areas such as lawns, flowerbeds, and trees require continuous maintenance and development. As a gardener, you will be responsible for the maintenance, planning, and development of these environments. Your tasks will include planting and caring for flowers in outdoor pots as well as caring for larger green plants indoors. You may also be required to engage inmates in the maintenance of walking gardens in a pedagogical manner.

You will be part of a team with service technicians whom you will support, and you will also take care of escorting visiting craftsmen. The work will also include cleaning the environmental houses for waste sorting and, during winter, snow shoveling and ice prevention.

QUALIFICATIONS

You are proactive, take responsibility for your tasks, and independently structure your work methods to drive processes forward. You are calm, attentive, and accommodating in your interactions and show interest, willingness, and ability to help others by actively working to deliver solutions. You often contribute ideas and new approaches to work-related issues and have innovative thinking that can be implemented in practice and lead to concrete results.

You are aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. We are looking for someone who has:

• Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with relevant work experience
• Relevant education in gardening and park maintenance, for example in plant knowledge, cultivation, irrigation, pruning, and plant protection
• Experience in gardening and park maintenance throughout the different seasons of the year
• Good computer skills
• Good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing

It is advantageous if you have:

• Degree or other formal education as a gardener
• Knowledge of sustainability and biodiversity
• Training in handling and maintenance of gardening tools and machinery
• Certification for wheel loaders
• B driver's license
