The Company

Spotpilot AB is a relatively new company that is 100% self-funded. We have developed a small unit that uses machine learning and optimization to smartly control home batteries/solar batteries to save money for the customer. Right now, we are in the process of adding support for electric vehicle charging.

Our office is located in the picturesque Hestra, Småland, right next to the ski and MTB facility Isaberg. As a developer, you can choose to work at the office here in Hestra or remotely.

Technical Solution

The unique aspect of our solution is that communication primarily occurs via the local network, which means that we, as web developers, have to think a bit more, as we are used to the simplicity of the cloud. For performance and security reasons, we run all ancillary services ourselves on Swedish servers.

The hardware of the unit is a Raspberry PI and the software running is written in Rust. We are very satisfied with our choice of Rust for several reasons, including how easy it is to make larger changes in the code.

Your Profile

• You enjoy taking on technical challenges
• You are preferably knowledgeable in:
• Rust or another compiled language
• Machine learning
• Optimization
• Modbus TCP
• Fluent English in speech and writing
• Fluency in Swedish is an advantage

Your Role

You will be part of the team that builds the core of the project, which includes designing, developing, and improving:

• Prediction of household electricity consumption and solar panel electricity production
• Optimization of battery charging
• Integrations with inverters for reading and controlling batteries
• Electric vehicle charging via OCPP
• Implementation of V2X (discharging the electric vehicle's battery to the home and grid)
• Discovery mechanisms for automatic detection of inverters, EV chargers, etc.
• Database queries (Postgres)
• REST API used by the apps
• Cloud-based proxy used for external access via the apps

Working Methodology

We are big fans of pair programming and try to spend at least half of our working time together. Otherwise, we follow the usual agile methods.
