About the workplace

Himlaskolan is located in Alafors, close to forests, nature, and countryside.

The school is also adjacent to the discovery site of the Äskekärr ship and Alebacken. The school has about 200 students and 20 employees. At Himlaskolan, we work in two teams; F-6 and after-school care. The school has a student health team consisting of the principal, assistant principals, school psychologist, school social worker, school nurse, special education teacher, and special pedagogues. The entire team meets regularly one afternoon a week with a focus on promoting and preventive work.

Himlaskolan is a small and family-like school and workplace. We work closely with our students to create a safe environment with good study conditions. We emphasize the value of being unique and the importance of treating everyone with respect and empathy. Teaching is characterized by joy and engagement from both students and staff. Physical activity is a significant part of the teaching, and with the forest as a neighbor, it becomes natural for some of the activities to take place outdoors in nature. The after-school care has its own large facilities where we can create different learning environments for the students. All staff working in after-school care meet weekly for joint planning and reflection.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for you who want to help develop our operations, focusing on a health-promoting learning environment. You will primarily support a student with type 1 diabetes, both in school and after-school care, while also being a support for other students in the class and after-school care.

Together with your colleagues, you will plan, implement, and follow up on the various parts of the after-school activities. For after-school care, you will plan for a situation-driven and experience-based learning that is based on all students' abilities to develop their social, linguistic, technical, practical, and aesthetic skills.

You are an important part of the work being done at the school. Throughout the school day, you will collaborate with teachers and other after-school staff for students' well-being, safety, and knowledge development. You will be part of a grade team where you and your colleagues are responsible for providing students with the best possible conditions for success in learning throughout the school day.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a pedagogical education at least at the upper secondary level, for example, childcare worker, leisure leader, YH education to educator in after-school care, etc. You should have education, competence, and experience working with children with type 1 diabetes.

You create engagement and participation and cater to each child's needs. As a person, you are outgoing, secure, stable, and have the ability to build good relationships with both children and adults. We are looking for someone who is solution-focused, flexible, and proactive.

It is essential for us that you are professional in your interactions with our children and their parents. You meet them with warmth, humor, and tolerance for everyone's differences. You are genuinely interested in children's play, how children's ability to form strong relationships with others develops, how children learn to handle and move on from conflicts and other difficulties, creativity and language, and spending time outdoors in playful ways with children and in children's digital worlds.

We work a lot together as a team, so we place great importance on personal suitability.

The position is a temporary contract from March 2026 until the summer of 2027.
