We harness the power of over 40,000 students and staff. Students who provide hope for the future. Staff who contribute daily to Linköping University addressing contemporary challenges. Our values are based on credibility, trust, and security. By being courageous, thinking freely, and innovating, we together create a better future through both large and small actions. Welcome to apply for a job with us!

Your Responsibilities

You will work on a project aimed at understanding the body's own regulation of ion channels and electrical excitability, as well as how this is modulated in disease and with the help of drug molecules. You will participate in the analysis of clinical material and follow-up experimental studies of the effects of substances on voltage-gated ion channels and cellular excitability, for a deeper understanding of potential physiological, pathological, and pharmacological effects. For clinical material, you will work with the analysis of biochemical data (proteomics, oxidized lipids, network analysis). Experimentally, you will primarily work with molecular biological and electrophysiological techniques in cell systems (for example, in Xenopus laevis oocytes and mammalian cells), but also with techniques such as gel electrophoresis, Western blot, and OxyBlot. You will study both healthy ion channels and ion channels that carry disease-associated mutations.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily conduct research. Teaching may also be included in the responsibilities, but no more than one-fifth of the working time.

Your Qualifications

To be eligible for a postdoctoral position, you must have a PhD or a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a PhD. Your degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made.

It is advantageous if your degree was obtained no more than three years before the application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, a degree obtained earlier may be considered, for example, due to various types of statutory leave.

We are looking for candidates with a PhD in medical science or a related field. Good knowledge in neuroscience, as well as experience in approaches to study inflammation profiles in disease conditions, is required. Experience in cell culture, gel electrophoresis, Western blot, OxyBlot, multivariate statistics, and MSD analysis is also required for the position.

Experience in how electrophysiology can be utilized for a mechanistic understanding of how endogenous molecules affect ion channels and cellular excitability is desirable.

We seek individuals who are structured and quality-conscious with good collaboration skills.

The position requires good knowledge of both English and Swedish, in both spoken and written form.

Your Workplace

You will work in the Department of Cell and Neurobiology (CNB), in Sara Liin's research group. The research group focuses on ion channels found in the human heart, nervous system, and muscles to understand how endogenous molecules and hereditary mutations affect the function of ion channels and to develop new chemical entities to restore normal function in these ion channels. You will be a member of a team that interacts closely with other team members who use methods in molecular dynamics, and you will also interact with local technical platforms in electrophysiology.

About the Employment

The position is a fixed-term employment for two years with the possibility of extension for a total employment period of no more than three years. The postdoctoral position is full-time.

Start date by agreement.
