Cemetery Manager Wanted at the Church of Sweden in Umeå

Do you want to lead a socially important organization with great trust and long-term responsibility? The Church of Sweden in Umeå is looking for a secure and stable Cemetery Manager who wants to take overall responsibility for our funeral operations and continue to develop it in line with our goals and mission.

About the Position

As Cemetery Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the entire administration, with 26 full-time employees and approximately 80 seasonal employees during the summer season. The organization also includes an Assistant Cemetery Manager, three team leaders, and support functions. You will lead both managers and staff, ensuring that operations are conducted professionally, legally, and with high quality. The role involves representing the funeral operations and the Church of Sweden both internally and externally.

You will work long-term and strategically, with the ability to lead within and through the organization. This means creating conditions for others to succeed, rather than being involved in all issues yourself.

Your Main Responsibilities

• Budget and operational responsibility
• Personnel responsibility for team leaders and staff
• Represent the operations internally and externally
• Strategic planning and development of funeral operations
• Ensure that operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines

Requirements for the Position

• Several years of leadership experience with responsibility for strategic issues related to governance and management
• Very good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both spoken and written
• Good digital competence and experience working in various systems
• Driving license (B)

Meritorious

• Experience working with governance and management in a trust-based organization
• Relevant university education
• Interest or professional experience in the green sector.

The Church of Sweden in Umeå consists of six parishes collaborating within the Umeå pastorate. The pastorate also has an office with joint property and cemetery management, administration and booking, HR function, and communication unit. There is also a shared Diaconal Center.
