We Want to Grow!
The Metallurgical Research Institute Swerim conducts industry-related research and development on metals and their journey from raw material to finished product. We have 200 employees at two locations in Sweden - Luleå and Stockholm. Our vision is a fossil-free and circular industry.
Within the Pilot and Demo business area at Swerim, we work operationally with the operation and maintenance of pilot and demonstration plants. Swerim has pilot plants for most known metallurgical processes, processing technical equipment, its own hydrogen production facility, and facilities for reforming various process gases available within the industry.
We modify and adapt our facilities to the customer's own conditions and develop processes on a pilot scale that can be transferred to the customer's own manufacturing facility. In our testing hall for heating and processing, several new pilot plants are being constructed, where the use of hydrogen is a central theme.
About the Job
At Swerim, you will work practically and closely with reality, where manual machining is a key competence in our operations. You will work closely with technicians and engineers, where your creativity and practical skills will be crucial in solving technical problems, building solutions, and testing if they work in reality.
The daily work is varied and can consist of everything from manufacturing individual components in manual lathes, mills, and grinders, to modifying equipment, analyzing a failure, and quickly coming up with a working solution - or participating in the construction and commissioning of entirely new pilot and process plants.
Your Main Responsibilities
- Machining is a central part of the role, with tasks such as turning, milling, and grinding.
- Solving mechanical problems and implementing your own proposals for solutions - from idea to testing in the facility.
- Preparing and participating in pilot tests in both new and existing facilities.
- Performing repairs and preventive maintenance on both equipment and buildings to ensure operational reliability.
Who Are You?
We are looking for someone who:
- Has documented education or experience in machining, such as turning and milling.
- Is creative, practically oriented, and enjoys solving problems in a smart and efficient way.
- Sees it as a challenge to analyze a problem, build a solution, and test if it holds.
It is an advantage if you have:
- Experience from process or manufacturing industry.
- Experience with overhead crane operation and working in heavy industry.
Personal qualities we value:
- Independence, responsibility, and the ability to drive work forward.
- Curiosity, teamwork, and a willingness to learn new things.
- A structured and safe working method, with a focus on quality and long-term solutions.
- You must work in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The position is a permanent full-time employment, based in Luleå. Travel may occur, and a driver's license (B) is required. Shift work may occur for shorter periods. At Swerim, you will be offered wellness benefits and access to training opportunities at the wellness center in Luleå.
