Description
Do you want to make a difference and help our students grow? Högsbodal AG is a small adapted upper secondary school for students with intellectual disabilities.
We are now looking for a special education teacher who wants to work in a workplace with great commitment and competent colleagues. We work based on each individual student's abilities and needs. It is important for us that you believe that the student can reach as far as possible and that you see opportunities instead of difficulties. Our 17 students study within an individual program and often have additional disabilities such as autism. We aim to stimulate students' curiosity and creativity by varying teaching methods using, for example, music, art, and digital tools.
Responsibilities
The small teaching staff collaborates closely around the students' achievement based on the subject area plans. The teachers have a significant responsibility for the school's development and the work with our operational plan and local goals. Our ambition is to work more with cross-groups and different themes throughout the year. You will have great opportunities to influence the school's operational development and to drive potential projects. In your role, you will also be responsible for music education at the school, in addition to being a class teacher.
As a special education teacher with us, you will be the class teacher for a group of 3-5 students. The work team for each class consists of you as the special education teacher and several teaching assistants. You will lead the teaching assistants in your class and guide them in their work with the students. This requires clarity, communication, and leadership skills. Some students may have behavioral issues due to their disabilities, which you will work proactively with alongside your colleagues, while also managing the student's well-being in the moment.
To succeed in this role, you need to have experience in similar pedagogical work. We expect you to stay updated on relevant research and contribute to school development based on the school's systematic quality work. You adapt your methods and responses to the students' needs and see learning in care and care in learning. You work with alternative augmentative communication (AAC) and clear pedagogical methods. You work long-term and build trust with both your colleagues and the students and their guardians. With a relationship-building approach and clarity, you show the way forward for the entire work team. Together, you create the best possible conditions for the students, who are always the focus.
Qualifications
You are a licensed and qualified special education teacher with a focus on intellectual disabilities. You have extensive experience and knowledge of our student group, preferably students at an early developmental level.
You have good special pedagogical competence and experience with alternative augmentative communication (AAC) and clear pedagogical methods. You have experience planning and leading the work in the classroom for teaching assistants. Based on the students' needs, it is a plus if you also have a particular interest in music, rhythm, and movement.
You have experience in school development and systematic quality work. To fit in and thrive with us, you should have good collaboration skills, be creative, flexible, attentive, and solution-focused. Familiarity and knowledge of the student group are prerequisites. The job requires good competence in common digital tools.
Other
Permanent employment, provided that the right qualifications are met. We offer you, as a licensed teacher who meets the qualifications, the opportunity to further your education to become a special education teacher. Based on the needs of the organization, studies at 20% of full-time with maintained salary will be offered during further education leading to a special education teacher degree focused on intellectual disabilities.
