The Department of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences educates engineering students, teacher students, and foundation year students.

In the mathematics subject group, research is conducted in algebraic geometry, dynamical systems and ergodic theory, applied partial differential equations, linear systems of partial differential equations, and topology. The subject group also conducts research in statistics and mathematics education.

We are now seeking two university lecturers in mathematics.

Job Responsibilities

As a university lecturer in mathematics, you will work with both teaching and research, as well as collaboration.

Teaching includes course responsibility, planning, implementation, evaluation, and development of courses and programs, and occupies a large part of the working time. The work also includes supervision and examination of theses. Teaching is conducted at both basic and advanced levels within engineering and teacher programs as well as standalone courses, and is offered both on campus and remotely. Teaching is conducted both independently and in collaboration with other teachers.

Research is included as part of the position. You are expected to actively participate in seeking external research funding and collaborating with the surrounding community.

The place of employment is Gävle, and most of the working time is located on campus, with close collaboration with colleagues, students, and external partners.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the position as a university lecturer in mathematics, you must have:

• a doctoral degree in mathematics or another degree deemed equivalent by the employer,
• demonstrated pedagogical skills through planning, execution (teaching and examination), evaluation, and development of education,
• completed higher education pedagogical training corresponding to at least 10 weeks of full-time studies or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge,
• good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English, considering the content and tasks of the position,
• good ability to collaborate and create good internal and external relationships through communication skills, and
• good initiative and independence.

It is particularly meritorious to have good evaluations from teaching in mathematics at a university or college.

It is meritorious if you have:

• experience with various forms of teaching,
• broad mathematical competence,
• good ability for independent research in mathematics,
• conditions for collaborations with researchers in the mathematics subject group, and
• experience of collaboration aimed at school youth, such as math competitions or popular science activities.

The assessment will primarily be based on pedagogical skills and breadth and scientific depth in mathematics. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Higher education pedagogical training is a requirement for employment as a university lecturer. If the higher education pedagogical training has not been completed at the start of employment, you are expected to complete the training (corresponding to at least 10 weeks of full-time studies, or otherwise acquire equivalent knowledge) within two years from the start of employment.
