Your Responsibilities We are now strengthening our office in Linköping to get even closer to our industrial partner Saab Aeronautics and together further develop Swedish combat aircraft and the propulsion systems of the future. Currently, a comprehensive upgrade of RM12 in JAS 39C/D is underway while RM16 in JAS 39E is on its way into operational service under our product responsibility. At the same time, work is intensifying on concept and technology development for future combat aircraft engines.
As a systems engineer, you will have a broad and exciting role where you work with both product support and development issues across several technical disciplines – for example, engine performance, system function, and engine installation, primarily in close collaboration with Saab Aeronautics.
Some of your main responsibilities:
Support and coordinate technical activities between project teams in Trollhättan and Saab in Linköping
Contribute to competence building for RM16 in JAS 39E in operational service
Participate in verification work for product improvements
Plan and conduct engine tests in test rigs and aircraft
Work on technology and concept development for future engine concepts and propulsion systems as well as electrification of existing engines
Collaborate with partners, customers, and end-users
Work on system safety issues to ensure and assess flight safety
The role will be shaped based on your experiences and qualities, but we would like you to have a systems engineering holistic perspective. The position is based in Linköping, where you will have an independent role with significant responsibility in your daily work. At the same time, you will be part of a close collaboration with our teams in Trollhättan – both remotely and, when necessary, on-site workdays in Trollhättan. Your Profile This is a coordinating role that suits you who enjoy coordinating and making different parts work together. You are meticulous, solution-oriented, and have the ability to create structure and drive work forward. At the same time, you are self-driven and take responsibility for your tasks when needed.
We see that you have several years of experience from the industry, preferably within engine control or other technically complex areas. Your background gives you confidence in understanding both the details of technology and the larger system perspectives, and now you want to contribute your expertise in a role that combines technology, collaboration, and development.
We are looking for someone who:
Has a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, engineering physics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another relevant engineering education
Has knowledge of engine systems and systems engineering work
Is proficient in Swedish and English, both spoken and written
Is prepared for travel, primarily within Sweden but also internationally if needed
Desirable experiences:
Knowledge of JAS 39 Gripen
Experience from the aerospace industry or the Swedish Armed Forces' aviation operations
Experience in Systems Engineering and system safety
The position requires you to undergo and be approved according to the applicable regulations for security protection. For positions where GKN's customer has requirements for security classification, this may entail requirements for certain citizenship.
