Department Head for Clinical Chemistry

About the Position

Our operations aim to deliver good service in laboratory diagnostics to healthcare in Region Halland. It is a high-tech operation based on the competence of the employees. Clinical chemistry is divided into different sections that cover the entire process from sampling to the delivery of analysis results. The operation is dynamic with a clear strategy for continuous improvements to meet healthcare needs while maintaining a good working environment.

The Clinical Chemistry department in Halmstad is divided into two units, each led by a department head. This position is for the department head of the 24/7 clinical chemistry operation. This unit includes sections for sample reception, coagulation, hematology, general and immunochemistry, as well as blood gas. You will be the immediate supervisor for approximately 32 employees in the unit. To assist you in managing the unit, there is a section leader who handles schedules.

The operation is facing significant changes in the coming years with the replacement of automation lines and general and immunochemistry instruments. A project is also underway with organizational changes where we are introducing cross-county process leaders for two areas. In this work, a clear and change-oriented leader is needed for the benefit of the employees.

Clinical chemistry and transfusion medicine operate in Kungsbacka, Varberg, Falkenberg, and Halmstad. As department head, you will work closely with other department heads to advocate for the entire operation.

As a manager in Region Halland, you have two assignments: to steer and lead with a focus on results and to engage and motivate your employees. You are the employer's representative and represent Region Halland, which means you have an understanding of the organization as a whole.

You will be employed in a permanent position in your base profession with an appointment as a manager for four years.

About the Workplace

Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine Halland is a regional organization consisting of five units. The management team consists of the operations manager, department heads, medically responsible leaders, business developers, and operations managers.

Within the clinic, 160 employees work, consisting of professional groups: biomedical analysts/laboratory assistants, doctors, chemists, medical secretaries, administrative staff, nurses, nursing assistants, and molecular biologists.

Clinical chemistry performs approximately 4.2 million analyses each year and provides an analysis range of 250 different analyses. Transfusion medicine issues 13,000 blood components/year for transfusion and annually performs 65,000 analyses. The operations in Halmstad and Varberg operate around the clock, 7 days a week, 24/7. In Falkenberg and Kungsbacka, operations are conducted during daytime hours, weekdays, 8-17.

Qualifications

For this position, we see that you have a university degree in biomedicine, natural sciences, or equivalent as deemed suitable by the employer. We consider it an advantage if you have training in leadership/organization. Previous management experience, preferably in healthcare, is meritorious. Furthermore, it is desirable that you have experience in development and improvement work as well as change management. Experience in clinical laboratory medicine is an advantage.
