to apply for the job
The city of Västerås has removed the personal letter from the application process. We do this to achieve a better and fairer recruitment process. When you submit your application, you will be asked to answer a number of questions that will become an important part of our selection work.
Do you want to be part of driving our work in data protection? We are now looking for an additional data protection officer who ensures that the operations and companies of the city of Västerås adapt to and comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable data protection legislation.
Your tasks
You provide qualified advice and support in matters related to GDPR and related regulations, monitor compliance, and ensure that requirements are implemented in practice. In this role, you support the operations during impact assessments and contribute to the development of routines, governing documents, and working methods for data protection and information management.
An important part of your work is to educate and guide managers and employees. You adapt communication according to the target audience and actively work to strengthen the data protection culture in the organization. By following legislation, practices, and technological developments, you translate new insights into improvements and development of the operations' working methods.
You will also play a central role in the development of Västerås city's systematic information management. This involves close collaboration with colleagues working with information security and archival issues to create common, effective, and legally mandated working methods.
As the municipality's expert in data protection, you are also a point of contact for both the residents of Västerås and the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection in matters concerning personal data processing and data protection.
Your qualifications
We are looking for someone with an academic degree in law and good knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation and other data protection legislation. It is beneficial if you have experience in practical data protection work and information security, preferably within the public sector. It is an advantage if you have previously worked as a data protection officer and have experience with DPIA, risk analyses, information classification, and work with management systems.
You are used to driving your issues forward and coordinating between different operations. Your ability to analyze complex legal and organizational issues and translate them into clear and understandable information for different target groups is central. You have a genuine interest in data protection and want to be involved in developing and strengthening the area in close collaboration with other functions in the municipality.
As a person, you are curious, action-oriented, and solution-focused, while also completing what you undertake. You are analytical and confident in making decisions within your area of expertise.
We offer
You will work closely with various expert competencies within the municipality, including law, archives, information security, and digitalization. The unit consists of 13 employees who have a strong focus on information management.
We believe in trust and freedom under responsibility – you plan your workday, have flexible hours, and the possibility of remote work when the operations allow.
Here you will be part of something bigger! With warmth and respect, we show initiative in both big and small matters. We live our values in our interactions with each other and those we serve. Every day, all year round, we ensure that Västerås functions. Together with your approximately 11,500 colleagues around the city, you will have Sweden's most important job.
