Economist at the Swedish Medical Products Agency

At the Swedish Medical Products Agency, we make a difference together. In life and for life. We work for the health of people and animals, for a better Sweden today and in the future. Do you want to work with finance in a government agency with important societal missions? We are looking for a colleague!

Our Operations

The planning and finance function plays a central role in the agency's governance and works closely with the heads of operations to develop financial, operational, and quality management. The function is directly subordinate to the Director General and is led by a Director of Planning and Finance. We are organized into two units and have employees directly reporting to the Director of Planning and Finance.

The unit for financial reporting is responsible for the agency's financial flows and accounting, including invoicing, payment flows, the financial components of the annual report, and reporting to the state accounting and other authorities. We support the entire organization in accounting and financial administrative matters, such as advice and interpretation of regulations.

We are currently conducting a feasibility study in preparation for the procurement of a financial system, where our unit has a key role in requirement specification and design of future working methods.

We at the Unit for Financial Reporting are looking for a colleague who wants to join us on our development journey!

Your Responsibilities

As an economist with us, you will play an important role in ensuring quality in accounting and developing our processes. Your responsibilities include, among other things:

  • For externally funded projects; responsible for accounting, follow-up, and reporting.
  • Support project managers with budget work, follow-up, forecasts, and analysis.
  • Conduct ongoing bookkeeping and reconciliations.
  • Participate in year-end closing work and other financial processes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, directives, and internal guidelines within the financial administrative area.

An important part of the assignment is to contribute to the development and streamlining of processes, routines, and working methods within our areas of responsibility. You will actively participate in improvement work and suggest how we can utilize our systems and tools more effectively. The role also means that you will be involved in shaping our financial system – from requirement specification to implementation – together with colleagues at the agency.

We work closely together within the unit, support each other during peak workloads, and share knowledge continuously. The role can therefore be broadened or deepened over time, depending on both your interests and the needs of the organization.

You will report to the unit manager, who is also the agency's accounting manager.

Your Background

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Post-secondary education in finance, or equivalent work experience that we consider comparable.
  • Very good knowledge of accounting.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

It is an advantage if you have experience in:

  • Financial work in a government agency or other public sector.
  • Working with complex regulations and conditions regarding external funding (e.g., EU projects, research funding, or other grant providers) and feel comfortable translating these requirements into practical accounting and reporting work.
  • Working in a larger business/financial system and preferably with the development of processes and routines.

Your Personal Qualities

To thrive and succeed in the role, we see that you:

  • Are easy to collaborate with, create good dialogue, and contribute to an open climate.
  • Are responsible, service-oriented, and professional in your contact with colleagues and external parties.
  • Can drive your work independently, but also have a strong team spirit and are willing to step in where needed.
  • Are unpretentious, solution-oriented, and comfortable taking initiative.
  • Have a positive attitude towards working in various IT systems and prefer digital tools.
  • Work methodically and structured, and are used to establishing and applying guidelines, routines, and instructions.
  • Enjoy learning new things, absorb new knowledge, and share it with colleagues.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
