KTH has established Microsoft Fabric as the core of its data platform and is now seeking two Data Engineers who want to drive the development further.

Responsibilities

As a Data Engineer at KTH, you will work on developing, quality-assuring, and managing KTH's central analytics and data platform in Microsoft Fabric. You will help build robust, scalable data solutions that enable data-driven decision-making in areas such as finance, HR, and education. The role includes creating structured data products, modeling semantic models, and supporting the organization in taking the step towards a more data-driven working method.

In this role, you will:

• Build, further develop, and manage KTH's analytics and data platform in Microsoft Fabric.
• Design and optimize the Lakehouse structure according to the medallion model (bronze, silver, gold).
• Ensure data quality through cleansing, validation, standardization, and deduplication at each layer.
• Model analysis-ready data products in star schema design, including measures, KPIs, and semantic models.
• Create and optimize Power BI models and reports in line with KTH's graphic guidelines.
• Develop and improve transformations using PySpark notebooks.
• Build scalable pipelines for data from internal systems and external data sources.
• Contribute to metadata management and long-term architecture development for a scalable and future-proof platform.
• Work according to DevOps methodology with version control of notebooks, SQL scripts, and data products.
• Implement CI/CD flows for Fabric artifacts via Azure DevOps Pipelines.

About the Department/Unit

The mission of the operational support is to support the university's education and research. KTH's operational support is in an exciting phase where we are working together to develop our working methods. As an employee within operational support, you contribute to KTH's mission to research, educate, and create societal benefit while also having the opportunity for your own professional development.

With approximately 150 employees organized across four specialized units, our IT department offers a supportive and enriching environment where you can thrive both professionally and personally. You will belong to the systems development unit, which currently has around 60 employees in roles such as system developers, team leaders, UX designers, service designers, and IT specialists.

The Team

You will be part of a cross-functional team and collaborate closely with project management, architects, analysts, and the organization in daily planning and delivery work.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Relevant academic education or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way that the employer assesses as equivalent.
• Current experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining data warehouses and metadata-driven ETL processes.
• Experience and deep understanding of Microsoft Fabric components, especially Data Pipeline, Notebook, semantic models, and lakehouse.
• At least 5 years of current work experience in data modeling.
• Current work experience in development using PySpark/Python and SQL.
• Ability to perform exploratory data analysis and translate this into interactive dashboards and reports using tools like Power BI.
• Fluent Swedish and English in both spoken and written form is required in daily work.

Meritorious

• Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700) and/or Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600).
• Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD specifically for Microsoft Fabric and Azure DevOps.
• Knowledge of data security and regulatory compliance.
• Experience in designing, consuming, and managing data-centric APIs such as REST and GraphQL.
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions across various business areas.
