Temporary Position as Engineer/Audiologist at the Hearing Center in Umeå
Region Västerbotten works to ensure that good health and sustainable development strengthen each other. We take responsibility for equal welfare and for research and innovation to yield results.
At the Neuro-Head-Neck Center (NHHC), approximately 650 employees work to investigate, treat, and rehabilitate diseases and injuries of the nervous system, brain, ears, nose, throat, and jaw. The center is a regional clinic providing highly specialized care for patients from the entire northern healthcare area. Research, education, and development are also conducted here. Our operations are accredited by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation).
The Hearing Center is part of NHHC with clinics in Umeå, Skellefteå, and Lycksele. We are a regional clinic and should operate from a regional perspective, utilizing the combined resources in the best possible way for the entire county. The Hearing Centers work with diagnostic measurements and fitting of hearing aids and cochlear implants. Technical hearing care provides technical support to hearing aid users and hearing technology aids for home and school.
The cochlear implant teams belong to the hearing and balance clinic and manage various types of hearing implants, such as cochlear implants and middle ear implants. Patients are referred from both outpatient and inpatient care in the four northernmost regions.
We are now looking for a colleague for a temporary position who wants to come and work with us at the Hearing Center in Umeå.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The position is clinically oriented with a primary focus on patient work, where you will be responsible for adapting implant systems for both adults and children. The tasks also include technical and audiological measurements during surgery, as well as analysis and compilation of relevant data.
You will be part of the interdisciplinary cochlear implant team, focusing on patients with hearing impairments and hearing implants. The team consists of hearing educators, audiologists, coordinators, engineers, social workers, doctors, and surgeons. Your responsibilities include programming hearing implants based on the individual needs of the patient and, together with the team, guiding the patient through the entire hearing rehabilitation process. The work requires technical competence as well as a good ability to meet patients. You will work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues such as audiologists and hearing educators. During the surgical procedure, you will participate to check the function of the implant.
You will meet patients of all ages and their relatives, from the first visit to ongoing habilitation and rehabilitation, as the cochlear implant is a lifelong aid. The work also includes repair and maintenance of aids as well as remote contact and adjustments via video visits.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who is a trained engineer, audiologist, or has equivalent experience. You are proactive, flexible, have good collaboration skills, and want to take responsibility. You should have an interest in deepening your knowledge in audiology and cochlear implants through clinical work, be positive, open, and have an easy time meeting people.
Meritorious:
- Experience working with hearing implants and diagnostics is meritorious.
