Do you want to contribute to top-quality medical research?
If this is true, you have come to the right place!
Karolinska Institutet as a workplace offers good development opportunities, extensive international exchange in both research and education, diversity, good benefits, and friendly colleagues.
Working with us means you are contributing to Karolinska Institutet's vision - to significantly improve people's health. We have nationalities from all over the world represented, which contributes to a dynamic climate. As a state employee, you have subsidized wellness, flexible working hours, and generous vacation conditions.
The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions where both research and teaching are conducted. The department's employees are involved in both basic and applied research, and all divisions operate in close contact with clinics at Karolinska University Hospital. We have about 250 employees and an annual turnover of approximately 300 million SEK, with an internal distribution of 75/25 for turnover in research and education.
The department's joint operational support consists of about 20 people who handle matters in finance, HR, research and education administration, study guidance, communication, and a service team tasked with providing technical expertise and other services to our office and laboratory environments. The finance function consists of four people: two economists, one EU economist, and one team leader, who support the department's management and other managers in planning and monitoring finances. We are currently looking for one or two economists for temporary positions due to parental leave.
Your role
As an economist with us, you will work with ongoing accounting but also with financial planning and monitoring in close collaboration with responsible managers. The role primarily involves the following tasks:
- Budgeting and monitoring finances within assigned activities.
- Reporting projects to our funders.
- Ongoing tasks such as transfers, invoicing, asset registration, etc.
- Management of agreements for external and internal collaborations as well as cooperation with healthcare units within the region.
- Contact person towards, and close collaboration with, the department's division coordinators.
Other financial administrative tasks may be added.
Who are you?
We are looking for someone with a bachelor's degree or equivalent in finance. Good knowledge of programs such as Word and Excel is required for this position. It is an advantage if you have work experience in public accounting and/or within a university/college, as well as if you have worked in the financial program Agresso/UBW.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability and the qualities that facilitate this role. This includes initiative and a good communicative ability – you enjoy explaining finance to non-financial people. Accuracy and flexibility are also important qualities. The role is characterized by responsibility, and you see it as a given to provide good service by being ready to help where needed. You are interested in the research and education conducted at the department, and you understand how your own competence relates to the academic context. Good knowledge of Swedish and English is required as we are an international, multicultural workplace.
What do we offer?
A creative, international, and inspiring environment filled with competence and curiosity. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. Our vision is to drive the development of knowledge about life and work for better health for all. Here we conduct successful medical research and have the largest range of medical education in Sweden. As a university, Karolinska Institutet is a state authority. This means you receive good benefits through our collective agreement. Employees at KI are also offered the opportunity for a flexible working method. This means that if the activity you work in allows it, you can work part of your working time remotely. You also get to train freely in our modern wellness facilities where trained staff are present.
