What will you work on?
In collaboration with colleagues, you will:
- Participate in planning, coordination, implementation, follow-up, and reporting of the agency's work in the field of mental health and suicide prevention.
- Contribute to the work of collecting, analyzing, and compiling knowledge and disseminating various types of knowledge bases, such as policy documents, reports, web texts, educational materials, guidelines, and fact sheets.
- Develop forms and be responsible for dialogue with actors at the national, regional, and local levels regarding, for example, the need for knowledge support.
- Represent the area and present developed knowledge at conferences and meetings in both Swedish and English, as well as participate in strategic and proactive communication work.
- Participate in processes regarding the distribution, assessment, and follow-up of government grants in the area.
- Contribute to the agency's international work in the field of mental health and suicide prevention.
The work also includes regular tasks for investigators at the agency, such as responding to referrals, working with environmental monitoring, communicating the unit's work in various forums, participating in the agency's networks and working groups, and contributing to the unit's and the agency's general development work.
Who are we looking for?
Requirements for employment
- Master's degree in public health or another relevant field, such as social sciences or behavioral sciences.
- Experience of independent investigative or developmental work within the public health area in the public sector, e.g., at an authority or in a municipality/region.
- Good knowledge of and experience in working in the field of mental health and/or suicide prevention.

Great emphasis is placed on:
- Strategic experience in developing, driving, and coordinating work in mental health and/or suicide prevention at an overarching level, for example, within the framework of national strategies, government assignments, or regional initiatives.
- Analytical ability to systematically collect, analyze, and compile information from, for example, surveys, interviews, research literature, and gray literature.
- Communicative skill to convey scientifically based knowledge in a pedagogical and target group-adapted manner, both in writing (guidelines, web texts, educational materials) and orally (conferences, meetings).
- Good language skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
- Personal qualities such as very good collaboration skills, being responsible and structured. You have a holistic perspective and a good attitude.
Great emphasis is placed on:
- Experience in driving development processes with multiple actors with different assignments and conditions, for example, by planning and leading workshops or needs assessments.
- Good knowledge of municipalities' and regions' conditions, assignments, and organization, as well as the ability to work with cross-sectoral issues within the welfare area (for example, health care, care, social services, education).
- Experience in working with goal and result management or operational logic.
Emphasis is placed on:
- Experience in international work, such as collaborative projects and dialogues within the EU, WHO, or with other international actors.
- Experience in patient/client-related suicide prevention work such as care and treatment, supportive and crisis intervention conversations, or contact with survivors and support for grieving relatives.
What does the unit do?
The unit for mental health and suicide prevention has a broad responsibility for several central government assignments and tasks according to the agency's instructions. These include coordinating the national work to promote mental health and prevent suicide, as well as systematically compiling, analyzing, and disseminating knowledge with a particular focus on mental health and suicide prevention across the population. The unit also has a mandate to be responsible for coordination, support, and follow-up of the implementation of Sweden's new national strategy for mental health and suicide prevention.
The unit for suicide investigations is responsible for a mandate to build a national investigation function that can conduct investigations of deaths by suicide. The purpose of the investigations is to improve society's ability to learn from what has failed in the societal safety net when someone takes their life and to increase understanding of what can be done to prevent and avert suicide.

About the employment
You will be employed as an investigator based at our office in Solna or Östersund. The position is a permanent full-time employment that begins with a six-month probationary period. Start date is as soon as possible by agreement.
As an employee of the Public Health Agency of Sweden, you may be placed in a war position. Certain positions are placed in a security class where Swedish citizenship may be a requirement. A security review will then be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585).
At the agency, there may be an opportunity to enter into an agreement for remote work of up to 40 percent of your working time.
