Jamtli is looking to strengthen its cultural heritage work and is therefore seeking an archaeologist for its project operations. The position is located in the Department of Cultural Heritage, which includes the museum's archaeological and building conservation staff. The department consists of both a project part and an advisory part, where this position will be 100% project-funded.
The main tasks include working independently within contract archaeology and other externally funded projects, including reporting and financial follow-up.
Who are you?
As an archaeologist at Jamtli, you will be part of a smaller work group where your good collaboration skills and enthusiasm for the profession contribute to the group's capabilities and development.
Your professional experience is extensive, and you help develop both Jamtli's archaeological project operations and support other staff members.
Your strong knowledge in the field of contract archaeology, including its regulations and tools, allows you to work independently while also developing with the tasks.
Having good skills in digital field documentation and GIS (total station/RTK-GPS, and software such as ESRI and QGis) is essential, as the position will involve the development of field support that Jamtli currently uses and will use in the future in its archaeological activities.
You will also participate in externally funded research and development projects within the cultural heritage area.
The position is based in Östersund, but you will have large parts of Norrland as your workplace. Assignments in other parts of the country may also occur.
Your tasks will include:
- Archaeological investigations in connection with exploitations, preferably step 1 investigations.
- Smaller archaeological investigations, step 2, preliminary investigations, and in some cases final investigations.
- Development and responsibility for the GIS use in contract archaeology and the development of the field support we need.
- Administration related to assignments, including finance, planning, and reporting.
- Applications for external funding for archaeological projects/research projects.
We are looking for someone who has:
- A university degree with archaeology as the main subject at least at the master's level.
- Several years of experience in independently conducting archaeological investigations, including reporting, and the ability to independently assess archaeological and cultural remains.
- Good knowledge of relevant legislation (Cultural Heritage Act, Environmental Code, etc.) and the regulations of contract archaeology.
- Good knowledge of and experience with ESRI software (especially ArcGisPro) and QGis.
- Driving license B.
- Ability to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish.
- Ability to work in a structured, solution-oriented, and communicative manner.
It is an advantage if you have:
- Experience in preparing environmental impact assessments and consultation documents.
- Worked with Sámi issues in connection with investigations and research projects.
- Completed a course in registration in the Cultural Heritage Register (Fornreg) at the National Heritage Board.
- Experience in writing quotes and tenders.
