Field of Activity: Psychiatry

We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer care to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is celebrated as a hero. With us, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, in a strong community with colleagues. See parts of our reality in our photo exhibition; akademiskafotoutstallning.se (http://akademiskafotoutstallning.se). Welcome with your application!

Our Operations

The 24-hour ward 4B consists of 14 places and is aimed at patients with alcohol, drug, and/or medication dependence who need detoxification treatment or withdrawal assistance. Admission occurs either via the psychiatric emergency department or outpatient care, but can also be planned from the municipality's dependency units. All treatment is based on an individual care plan.

On the ward, there are doctors, nurses, caregivers, clinical pharmacists, and social workers. Based on the individual needs of the patients, we collaborate and consult with other psychiatric specialists at Akademiska sjukhuset to ensure that patients receive good care. The operation belongs to the section for Dependency and Neuropsychiatry, a leading section where research and development of care is prioritized. All staff have access to supervision, and we actively work to improve the work environment for staff. We also work purposefully on improving patient care and are keen to involve and support relatives. The staff group on 4B is open, positive, secure, and competent, making it easy for new staff to join the ward.

Your Mission

As a nurse in psychiatric inpatient care, you play an important role in the team working on the patient's recovery. In collaboration with colleagues from different professional categories, you assess and plan the individual patient's needs for support, care, and treatment. You work closely with the patient and collaborate with psychiatric outpatient care, other care providers/community agencies, and relatives. You are responsible for documentation and administration of medications. Mentoring students and new employees is a natural part of your duties. It is important that you have a genuine interest in working with people with psychiatric issues and that you want to contribute to the development of our operations.

Your Qualifications

You should be a licensed nurse, preferably with experience in psychiatric work. As a person, we hope you are positive, driven, engaged, flexible, and solution-oriented with the ability to prioritize among varying tasks in a changing environment, have an open view of humanity, and enjoy challenges. We also expect you to have a good service attitude towards both patients and colleagues as well as external actors. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Specialist nursing education and previous work experience in psychiatry are meritorious but not a requirement.

If you are a newly graduated nurse, we are a perfect department for you to become secure in your nursing role and gain broad experience in dependency psychiatry. After an introduction tailored to your needs, a stimulating work environment awaits where no day is like the other. Working on the ward gives you a broad insight into various psychiatric conditions. After completing the introduction, you will be assigned a mentor during your first year. The mentor is an experienced nurse, and the purpose of the mentorship is to make your first year in the department even more secure. The department head and deputy department head, who are both specialist nurses in psychiatry by profession, are also highly present and involved in daily work.

If you are an experienced nurse, you will be able to develop your leadership skills with us and take responsibility for the development of various areas based on your interests and the needs of the operation. Good knowledge of Swedish is a requirement. We place great emphasis on personal suitability and your ability to fit into our team.

We work based on evidence-based methods and place great importance on care development and research in dependency care.

Even if you are not yet finished with your nursing education but will be by January 2026 or June 2026 and have an interest in psychiatry, you are welcome to apply for the position.

We Offer

We offer a permanent full-time position. A probationary period may be applied. Before employment, extracts from the suspicion and criminal records will be taken. You may be scheduled for day and evening shifts with some weekend work. Interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis, and the position may be filled before the application deadline. With us, you will receive benefits that make a difference; read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).
