Our Operations

The specialized palliative care at Akademiska sjukhuset is conducted at the palliative center, which also includes a branch in Tierp. Here, patients with various diagnoses and of all ages are cared for. We provide palliative care to patients with complex symptoms or whose life situation entails special needs, and we work in multidisciplinary teams where special knowledge and competence are utilized. The palliative center has four units; the department for specialized palliative inpatient care (SPVA), the department for specialized home care (ASH) covering Uppsala, Knivsta, and Norduppland, a palliative outpatient clinic, and a palliative consultation team (PKT) providing advice and training for both outpatient and inpatient care throughout the region. The operations are characterized by a holistic view of the individual, high-quality care and nursing, and support for relatives. Our facilities are located at Akademiska sjukhuset, Genetikvägen 4, which is 3.5 km south of Akademiska sjukhuset, as well as at Tierp health center. Research and education are an important part of all operations at Akademiska sjukhuset, including the palliative center.

Currently, a reorganization is underway with the explicit goal of strengthening palliative care within the region. We look forward to the future, and we would like to have even more competent individuals join us in our development of the operations!
