We are looking for two Genetic Counselors for Clinical Genetics!

We are looking for you with education in genetics and genetic counseling, who enjoys meeting patients and actively wants to be part of the exciting development within the specialty!

Our Operations

The operations include patient reception and consulting services, as well as laboratory diagnostics of genetically related diseases and conditions. Patients are referred to the outpatient clinic from the Healthcare Region of Central Sweden (https://www.sjukvårdsregionmellan.se/ (https://www.sjukv%C3%A5rdsregionmellan.se/)) who need clinical genetic diagnostics, investigations, and genetic counseling. At the outpatient clinic, genetic counseling is provided to individuals or families with suspected or confirmed hereditary diseases in themselves, their children, or other relatives. Our mission also includes research, development, and education in collaboration with Uppsala University. Clinical genetics has no on-call duty or standby. The laboratory operations are accredited according to ISO15189 and environmentally certified according to ISO 14001.

Clinical genetics is an expansive and exciting field within Uppsala University Hospital. You will work at a university hospital with a focus on the patient. Currently, over 80 people work in Clinical Genetics, of which 7 are genetic counselors. We strive to be an attractive workplace with engaged colleagues, participation, and good leadership!

Your Mission

Being a genetic counselor at Uppsala University Hospital is a varied, significant, and developing job. As a genetic counselor, you are responsible for your own patient consultations, telephone advice, and creating family trees. You also perform administrative work before and after hereditary investigations, such as requesting hereditary investigations from other hospitals.

The outpatient clinic is divided into three specialties: oncogenetics, general genetics, and pediatric genetics. You will work with patients at the oncogenetic clinic and/or the general genetic clinic depending on your background. Questions about pediatric genetics may also be included. Clinical Genetics is a growing field with many different projects aimed at improving quality for our patients and employees. Among other things, work is underway to start a brand new clinic within Uppsala University Hospital that will offer follow-up and psychosocial support to individuals with a hereditary increased risk of cancer. We are in development and expect you to want to contribute to improving the clinic's workflows and routines!

Are You the Right Fit for Us?

We are looking for someone with a relevant basic education equivalent to at least 180 higher education credits as well as education in genetics and genetic counseling. You may be a licensed nurse, biomedical analyst, biomedicine graduate, social worker, or have another suitable background in nursing science or biology. You have an empathetic approach to patient care and work in a structured manner. You find it easy to collaborate, are attentive, and have a good ability to communicate and work independently. You can express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing, and have basic knowledge of English.

We would like you to have:

• 2 years of practical experience at a clinical genetic clinic or another hereditary clinic
• or a master's degree in genetic counseling or another equivalent theoretical education in genetics and genetic counseling
• or 15 credits in genetics and genetic counseling
• experience working clinically with patient consultations and record-keeping
• digital maturity and experience working in Cosmic
• experience in digitization and development work
