Field of Operation Academic Laboratory

We are the Academic Hospital – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer care to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is celebrated as a hero. With us, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, in a strong community with colleagues. See parts of our reality in our photo exhibition; akademiskafotoutstallning.se (http://akademiskafotoutstallning.se). Welcome with your application!

Our Operations

The Academic Laboratory is responsible for qualified medical diagnostics, advice, research, development, and education. We are divided into five different sections that together operate within ten different laboratory medicine knowledge areas – transfusion medicine, immunology, chemistry, pharmacology, bacteriology, virology, healthcare hygiene, pathology and cytology, as well as genetics. Our customers are primarily located in Uppsala County and in our Central Swedish region. The Academic Laboratory is an operation in constant change. In total, we are about 500 employees with operations at the Academic Hospital and the Hospital in Enköping, as well as in our blood donation trailer.

The Department of Hemotherapy is responsible for blood collection at the Academic Hospital and via blood donation trailers and blood buses at several collection sites in the region and nearby regional counties. Here, the production of blood components and patient treatments with apheresis technology also takes place.

This is what we work with

We are a wonderful team looking for a new colleague! With us, you as a nurse will work with both patients and healthy donors. At our patient reception, we perform various types of treatments, including stem cell collections, cell collections for CAR-T treatment, photopheresis, and blood and plasma exchanges. We receive patients of all ages, both children and adults. The work is varied as some patients come directly from home and some patients are treated as inpatients on our care ward. Some patients come for treatment on an occasional basis, while others return regularly over a longer period. Our focus is on professional care for our patients and donors. At the blood center and in the blood donation trailer, blood collections from healthy donors are performed. In this position, work at the patient reception is combined with work at the blood center. The tasks are performed in close collaboration with colleagues.

Introduction

Our introduction is individually tailored. Training takes place under the supervision of a mentor, with regular follow-ups. Authorization to perform tasks is given gradually, and some tasks may take a long time to learn.

Working Hours

At the patient reception, we work daytime on weekdays, 07:30-16:15. In blood donation, the working hours are scheduled for weekdays, daytime combined with a couple of evenings (until 19:30) a week. There is also the possibility to work in the blood donation trailer if desired. Then the working hours vary, with four slightly longer days compensated by a day off on Friday.

Is this the right place for you?

Our focus is to take care of our donors and patients in the best way so that they feel safe when they are with us. We work with both people and medical technology, as patients are often connected to machines. We care for patients who are involved in research studies and work with the latest treatments in our field. We work with competence development and encourage having individual areas of responsibility. We are an accredited operation with high-quality requirements and we work systematically, quality-conscious, and according to established routines. We appreciate improvements and enjoy working on quality-enhancing tasks. We value good collaboration skills, as we work closely together and help each other. We have continuous further education in the field and create lectures based on staff requests.

Are you the one we are looking for?

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse, preferably with a few years of experience and confident in your role. You need to be quality-conscious and able to work systematically according to the existing routines. The work sometimes involves rapid changes in pace and changes that require you to be flexible and able to prioritize. You need to be able to express yourself well in speech and writing. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability as the work involves close collaboration with colleagues, donors, and patients. We hope you find this an interesting workplace and that you want to become part of our wonderful team!
