Assistant Parish Priest Wanted

As our assistant parish priest is retiring this summer, we are now looking for his replacement.

S:t Petri Parish is located in the heart of vibrant city life, with neighborhoods such as Slottstaden, Fridhem, Varvsstaden, Västra hamnen, and the city center. Here, you will find several cultural institutions, authorities, and schools. S:t Petri Parish includes our two churches: S:t Andreas Church at Fridhemstorget and S:t Petri Church at Stortorget, both of which have a central high mass and are characterized by a rich music and choir life. The parish offers a wide variety of meeting places such as open activities for different ages, concerts, discussion groups, and work with volunteers is central.

Malmö Pastorate consists of six parishes and 21 churches. There is also a cemetery administration and support functions such as HR, IT, finance, communication, and property management. In total, we are about 500 employees as well as many volunteers and elected representatives. The Church of Sweden in Malmö is in an exciting phase of development. We are shaping the church of the future in a rapidly growing city with the country's youngest population, where 50% of the residents are between 0–35 years old.

About the Position

The assistant parish priest is tasked with supporting the parish priest in leading the parish pastorally, strategically, and operationally, as well as anchoring the parish instruction in the parish and working to promote the Church of Sweden in Malmö. As an assistant parish priest, you will be part of the parish leadership together with the parish priest and the assistant parish priest at S:t Petri Church.

Your main tasks, in addition to leading services, providing pastoral care, and conducting teaching, are to lead and distribute work in Andreas Church. You will lead the theological development by combining tradition and renewal based on the local community's and the entire parish's conditions and goals. Deepening the development of services, engaging and inspiring volunteers, and being responsive to the local community and city are three important focus areas.

Qualifications and Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is ordained according to the Church of Sweden's order and has worked as a priest for a few years. If you also have leadership experience, it is a clear advantage. You have a strong commitment to services and ideals.

As the parish and pastorate develop, it is valuable that you have experience in leading change and that you are flexible in adapting to new opportunities and conditions. You need to have a genuine interest in people and the ability to create good relationships at all levels. You should be able to take initiative, act with credibility and independently, and ensure that tasks are completed.
