University of Gothenburg meets societal challenges with diverse knowledge. 56,000 students and 6,600 employees make the university a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive educational programs attract researchers and students from all over the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future.
At the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology at Sahlgrenska Academy, extensive research and teaching are conducted across large areas of knowledge - from molecule to human. The activities consist of five sections: pharmacology, physiology, health and rehabilitation, clinical neuroscience, and psychiatry and neurochemistry.
The Department of Neuroscience and Physiology is now seeking a postdoctoral researcher in neurochemistry, based at the Section of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.
The Section of Psychiatry and Neurochemistry offers world-leading translational research that spans from cell and animal models to clinical studies and extensive epidemiological studies. Successful research is conducted here in areas such as bipolar disorder, addiction medicine, aging, neurochemistry, and forensic psychiatry.
Job Responsibilities
In Alzheimer's disease (AD), there is an aggregation of specific proteins; beta-amyloid forms plaques and Tau forms tangles in the brain. It is still unclear when, how, and where in the brain AD pathology arises. We are now looking for a positive, driven postdoctoral researcher with solid experience in neurochemical research and laboratory work to study disease mechanisms in Alzheimer's.
The job responsibilities include participating in several different projects within mass spectrometry-based analysis of brain tissue in relation to specific pathological features of Alzheimer's disease. The goal is to study Alzheimer's disease mechanisms together with other researchers and ultimately write scientific articles. Analytical methods primarily include microscopy and imaging mass spectrometry of peptides, proteins, metabolites, and lipids.
Qualifications
In assessing the qualifications of applicants, great importance will be placed on research experience focusing on mass spectrometry-based (MS) analysis of proteins and other substances in brain tissue and CSF/blood samples in both AD mouse models and AD patients. Knowledge and experience in imaging MS, protein analysis, LCMSMS, and data analysis of MS data are meritorious.
The candidate must demonstrate very good knowledge of English (spoken and written). Additionally, a good ability to independently process data and write scientific publications is a prerequisite, as well as being flexible and able to work both in a team and independently. Personal suitability will be given significant weight.
Employment
The position is a fixed-term employment for 5 months, 100% of full-time, with placement at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology. Start date: as soon as possible or by agreement.
