FOI, the Total Defence Research Institute, is one of Europe’s leading institutes for applied research in defence and security. FOI is an authority under the Ministry of Defence and is tasked with conducting research, method and technology development, as well as investigations for total defence and in support of disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security. The activities are carried out on behalf of primarily the Government Offices, the Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). At FOI, we have about 1400 employees, of which more than 1000 work directly with research and development. Our competencies span the entire field from natural sciences and technology to social and political sciences.

About the Position
You will be part of a team of software developers responsible for developing and maintaining a complex simulator facility. The team works with the entire chain from designing software architecture, creating graphical interfaces, to implementation and testing. Development primarily occurs in C++, but we also write some code in languages such as Java and Python. In the role of software developer, you are expected to take responsibility for driving your own work packages after a while.
The position is located at FOI in Kista. Travel both within Sweden and abroad is included.
About the Unit
You will be part of the Air Force's Air Combat Simulation Center (FLSC) operated under FOI. We develop a world-leading simulation facility for air combat used by, among others, Swedish Air Force pilots for training, exercises, and tactical studies. Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
We are looking for someone who has:
- A university degree in computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent that we assess to be relevant for the position.
- At least two years of experience in professional software development in C++.
- Several years of experience working professionally in an agile development environment where CI/CD is applied.
- Good ability to communicate in both spoken and written Swedish as well as English.
As a person, you have the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively. You take initiative and can be responsible for smaller projects. Furthermore, you find it easy to collaborate with others. You remain calm, stable, and controlled in stressful situations. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
Meritorious
- Experience with programming languages Python and Java.
- Experience with CI tools such as Jenkins, Docker, and GitHub.
- Experience in professional simulator or game development.
- Experience in modeling and simulation as well as training and educational systems.

The position is a permanent employment that may begin with a six-month probationary period.
