Academic Children's Hospital

Small hearts need great care! We are a small hospital in the big picture, and it is in the small details that our greatness lies. Here, all the expertise a sick child may need is available, along with good cooperation, respect, and care. We offer a really good introduction for newcomers and many interesting opportunities for development. There is also unexpectedly much joy in what can sometimes be very difficult. We take care of the children and their families, and we take care of each other – because we know that we do a much better job together!

Welcome to an exciting and developing job with us in pediatric oncology!

As a nurse with us, you will be part of a service that conducts highly specialized pediatric oncology and is one of Sweden's four complete pediatric oncology centers, where we provide both medical and surgical care. The section for blood and tumor diseases in children is one of seven sections at the Academic Children's Hospital. The section consists of ward 95A with an associated day care unit and outpatient clinic. We receive patients from the entire healthcare region of Central Sweden for investigation, diagnosis, and treatment. We collaborate with the national radiation clinic Skandion, which allows us to receive children from all over Sweden, some from the Nordic countries, and even other countries. The operation also includes a strong and extensive research unit, which is currently in an expansion phase. We also perform stem cell transplants in our department. Here, good opportunities for education and further training are offered.

Working with children automatically involves a lot of play and fun, which contributes to a light-hearted atmosphere in the department despite the difficult situations we face. When a child gets cancer or another serious illness, an entire family is affected. Our patients stay with us for a long time, which allows us to build close relationships and get to know the child and their family. This enables us to provide the care and support that the child and family specifically need.

"Many are quite afraid to apply to a children's ward right after graduation, but I really don't think you should be. If you want to work with children, you should work with children; there's no point in waiting." -Lisa, nurse Pediatric Oncology
