Senior Counsel
SCC offers professional dispute resolution for commercial parties and is one of the world's largest and most reputable dispute resolution institutes. We are now looking for a temporary Senior Counsel. The assignment is for up to one year.
The SCC Arbitration Institute was founded in 1917 and is an independent unit within the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce. Each year, we handle approximately 175-200 disputes with parties from more than 40 countries. We manage both national and international commercial disputes between companies and investment disputes between companies and states.
We are now looking for a new temporary colleague to join our wonderful team to support the operations during an upcoming parental leave. We are therefore looking for an engaged and driven person for a temporary position of up to 12 months.
You will assist the lawyers and administrators in SCC's administration of arbitration proceedings, including preparations for the board's decisions. The decisions relate to, for example, the appointment of arbitrators, challenges regarding arbitrators, jurisdiction, and the costs of the arbitration proceedings. You will be responsible for ensuring that the work maintains high quality.
You will lead the work with our digital services and tools, which also includes negotiating and renegotiating contracts with external suppliers.
The lawyers and interns at SCC write many reports each year. You will assist with advice and support in drafting these reports and will approve the reports before they are published.
You will also assist in finalizing SCC's annual statistics and follow up on the monthly KPIs for the operations.
You will also actively contribute to SCC's operations in other ways, depending on your skills and interests.
You will undoubtedly become a spider in the web at SCC and work very closely with the Secretary General and others at SCC.
The role involves qualified work in an international environment and at a modern office in the heart of Stockholm (the intersection of Regeringsgatan/Hamngatan).
We are 15 people working at SCC, including seven lawyers, four administrators, one communicator, and three student assistants. Additionally, we often have one or two interns or visiting professionals, often from other countries, in the team. Besides the approximately 200 arbitration proceedings and other cases we handle together each year, we also develop and market our services in Sweden and abroad.
The role offers an invaluable opportunity to gain insight into and contribute to one of the world's leading arbitration institutes. With us, you will have the chance to make a real difference.
Who are you?
You have a law degree with good grades. In addition, we believe that you have at least 5 years of work experience, preferably with experience from international and/or commercial arbitration proceedings and/or court disputes. It is an advantage if you have studied a master's in arbitration law, are court-qualified, or have worked in court.
You will work independently and be a sounding board for others in the team. It is therefore important that you are confident in your analytical ability and comfortable meeting deadlines. To thrive in the job, you also need to be structured, meticulous, and have an easy time collaborating with your colleagues.
You need to have good self-leadership and the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize among them.
The work is conducted in Swedish and English. Therefore, you need to speak and write Swedish and English fluently. Additional language skills are an advantage.
We always take at least two references for everyone we recruit, but we also think it is equally important that you, as a job applicant, can take references on us as an employer. We know how important the match is from both sides, and therefore all final candidates can ask the recruiting manager for two references at the end of the recruitment process. Our references are our existing employees who can answer questions about what it is like to work with us.
We conduct a background check and request an extract from the criminal record before the position is filled.
