Correctional Services is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding to our operations, and we are now seeking more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.

The Umeå operational area includes the closed prison Umeå, the open prison Sörbyn, and the detention center Umeå. About 220 employees manage and develop the operations that accommodate approximately 290 inmates. The largest professional group is correctional officers, but we also employ healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, and more. At the Sörbyn prison, inmates are engaged in labor market training, learning centers, various treatment programs, or work in the kitchen, carpentry, crop cultivation, packaging/assembly, etc. The Sörbyn prison is an agricultural facility with grain cultivation and animal husbandry. At the Umeå prison, inmates are engaged in wood/industry, kitchen, learning centers, and treatment programs. The Umeå prison and detention center are about a 10-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, while Sörbyn prison requires a car. Staff parking is available at all facilities.

We are now looking for new colleagues for our facility in Ersboda, Umeå!

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you will work in a team with other professionals to maintain a safe and secure environment and motivate clients towards a life without crime. The role of a correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with a focus on risk assessment and security awareness.

Your daily tasks will include locking and unlocking residential rooms, searching premises, and supervising, as well as acting as a contact person and preparing for releases. The work is varied, and there are many development opportunities for those seeking continued employment. Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference in other people's lives and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share Correctional Services' fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in human development.

You will start your employment at the workplace with a three-week introduction. After a few months of service, we will schedule when you will begin Correctional Services' mandatory basic training. The training lasts eight weeks and takes place during paid working hours at our competence center in Härnösand. Ongoing assessments will be made before the probationary employment transitions to permanent employment after six months.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
• Completed high school education or other education combined with work experience deemed relevant by Correctional Services.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
• Good computer skills.

It is an advantage if you have:

• Work experience in corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social services.
• Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
• Relevant language skills.
• Driver's license (B).

OTHER

We have high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. A security check will precede the decision on employment. Certain positions are classified in a security class, and a security assessment with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. For positions with a higher security classification, you must be a Swedish citizen, but you may have a foreign background.
