The research will be conducted within the Human Evolution program at the Department of Organism Biology (Evolutionary Biology Center, Uppsala University, Sweden). The program has extensive interests in population genetics and human evolution, providing many opportunities for collaboration with postdocs and PhD students working on related projects. The research environment is international, with English as the working language. Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a researcher in archaeogenetics focusing on the people who lived in various cultural groups during the Scandinavian Stone and Bronze Ages. The researcher will organize and document human genome and metagenome data, as well as osteological and archaeological reports. The position also includes compiling and documenting human skeletal material (including dental calculus) for analyses of DNA, paleopathologies, stable isotopes, and radiocarbon dating, as well as leading certain parts of the laboratory production of genomic data. The researcher will perform population genetic analyses and interpret these results alongside the archaeological and osteological contexts. The results will be published in international scientific journals.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the position as a researcher, you must have a PhD or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD in archaeogenetics. The applicant must also have solid experience in population genetic analyses of large-scale genomic and metagenomic data from prehistoric humans, knowledge of the Stone and Bronze Ages in the Baltic Sea region, and experience in human osteology. The person needs to be structured, quality-conscious, have good collaborative skills, good analytical ability, and be able to handle Swedish and English in both spoken and written forms.

Desirable/meritorious qualifications

Experience in paleopathological analyses, stable isotope analyses including strontium Laser-Ablation analyses, 3D scanning, and calibration of radiocarbon data is meritorious.
