Mother Tongue Teacher in Finnish Part-time Position at Sundsvall Municipality

CFL (Center for Multilingual Learning) is part of the Child and Education Administration in Sundsvall Municipality. Our activities aim to provide students with teaching in their mother tongue and study guidance in their strongest school language. Today, we teach in over 30 different languages at primary and secondary schools in the municipality (both municipal and independent). We also assist in the assessment of newly arrived students and organize tests in the mother tongue subject.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are currently looking for a mother tongue teacher in Finnish at 20%, but the employment rate may change over time as our activities are based on student numbers that can change.

In the work as a mother tongue teacher, planning, implementation, grading, and evaluation of the teaching you conduct according to the Swedish curriculum are included. The teaching takes place where possible in groups, at a school or centrally in Sundsvall. The groups consist of students from mixed grades (usually grades 1-3, grades 4-6, grades 7-9), or high school. Your work is very independent, but you will be part of a team of other mother tongue teachers, who meet regularly in educational conferences and study days.

QUALIFICATIONS

You have Finnish as your mother tongue and have good knowledge of the language.

You also need to be able to certify that you have good knowledge of the Swedish language (approved grade in Swedish B/Swedish 2) because the work involves daily contact with Swedish-speaking colleagues, as well as pedagogical documentation, etc., in Swedish.

You have a Swedish or foreign and validated teaching qualification, or other education and experience that the employer deems relevant.

You are familiar with the Swedish school system and other governing documents relevant to the operation.

You feel comfortable formulating assessments of students and with grading.

You have basic IT skills and feel comfortable handling various digital systems.

You have experience working with children and students.

As a person, you are a relationship builder and have the ability to create good relationships with students, guardians, colleagues, and teachers at schools. You are easy to collaborate with, curious, and want to develop and grow.

You have a cultural awareness where you value differences and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect oneself and others in actions and words. It is important that you understand your role as a mother tongue teacher while also looking out for the best interests of the entire operation in your actions and decisions. You should be flexible and have good collaboration skills, you are a good listener and can communicate and handle various situations in a constructive manner. You should have a high level of service and social competence.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

In the municipality, all our teaching is on-site, at the schools. Remote teaching is not applicable.
