The Department of Natural Sciences, Design and Sustainable Development (NDH) operates at Campus Östersund and Campus Sundsvall, where we educate and conduct research within the institution's subjects with a focus on sustainable development.

About the Department

The Ecochemistry research group conducts much of its research within the projects CirBio3.0, Char-CC, CirkFerm, and Fiber2Comp. Information about the research group and the projects can be found at the link: Ecochemistry (https://www.miun.se/Forskning/forskargrupper/ekokemi/).

Job Responsibilities

The Ecochemistry group is now seeking a postdoctoral researcher who will primarily work within the research project CirBio3.0. The work mainly involves developing and using analytical methods for proteins, amino acids, nutrients, sugars, toxins, etc., in materials such as biomass from fermentation, side streams from the brewing industry, pulp and paper industry, and new products in the food and feed sector. Live microorganisms are handled within the project, which means that sterile work is included. Teaching or other departmental work, up to 20%, may be included in the job responsibilities.

Qualifications

The candidate for the postdoctoral position must meet the eligibility requirements described at employment requirements (https://www.miun.se/medarbetare/styrdokument/ny-styrning-planering-och-uppfoljning/Personal/Anstalla-personal/?item=311447). A PhD is required in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, food chemistry, microbiology, biotechnology, or another relevant field suitable for the job responsibilities.

Assessment Criteria

We are looking for someone with practical experience in analyzing and quantifying organic molecules using techniques such as GC-MS, LC-MS, and IC. Experience in method development within chromatography, isolation, derivatization, and chemical analysis of small quantities is highly meritorious. Competence in handling and maintaining relevant analytical equipment is also an advantage, as well as knowledge in amino acid analysis and food chemistry. Experience in sterile work and knowledge in areas such as food science, microbiology, fermentation, and cultivation of fungi, algae, bacteria, or yeast is beneficial. Experience in analyzing and quantifying proteins, amino acids, and fatty acids is also meritorious. Knowledge of Swedish legislation in the food and feed industry and industrial experience in relevant project areas is valuable. To successfully interpret and evaluate results from analytical work, you should have good knowledge of statistical methods used in the research field.

Personal Attributes

In addition to relevant subject knowledge, independence, initiative, and a strong ability to plan and organize your work are valued. As a postdoctoral researcher, you are expected to be goal- and result-oriented, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
