GIS Developer at the Geodata Unit

Are you an experienced GIS engineer with a passion for advanced analysis and technical solutions? At the Geodata Unit, we are experiencing an exciting time with a lot of new technology and new ways of working. We are looking for a senior GIS developer who can elevate our GIS operations to the next level.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a GIS developer with us, you will work on producing decision support in the form of geographic information. You will visualize information geographically and link operational data to the Eskilstuna map or ArcGIS Enterprise, which are the municipality's web-GIS/GIS platforms. You will enable caseworkers in the municipality to collect operational data easily using various GIS applications on the ESRI platform. You will also help our internal users to digitize and streamline their processes. Our upcoming transition to FME municipal license will provide further opportunities to create smart solutions for our users.

Examples of tasks included in the position:

  • Create customized GIS solutions in the ESRI platform, FME, and using programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or SQL
  • Automate processes, workflows, and data management with FME
  • Publishing to web maps, cartography, data extraction, and GIS analysis.

The Geodata Unit plays an important role in the municipality, and as a GIS developer, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks that can also be adapted based on your experiences and interests to contribute to the development of the operations as much as possible. In addition to the team and others in the Geodata Unit, you will collaborate extensively with other caseworkers, especially in the Community Planning Department and our digitalization developer.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with a university degree in GIS, system development with a GIS focus, or equivalent that the employer assesses as comparable. You have an understanding of geodata and database structures and have worked on the ESRI platform. We primarily seek someone with several years of work experience in the GIS field/GIT system development.

Other areas of knowledge that we consider advantageous for the position include:

  • FME Form and FME Flow
  • Competence in one or more programming languages such as Python, SQL, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, R
  • Good knowledge of database management Microsoft SQL Server/ArcGIS Enterprise geodatabases/PostgreSQL
  • Experience with PowerBI, Cityworks, version control with Git/GitHub, handling large datasets, and information security classification

You are technically skilled and possess both social and communicative abilities. You can listen to the customer's ideas and wishes and translate needs into information in the database and applications. In your independent work, you are structured and detail-oriented with a focus on documentation. With commitment and clear communication, you contribute to our positive atmosphere in the unit and the team. The Geodata Unit in Eskilstuna Municipality works to provide and develop geodata services for the benefit of the municipality's operations and our residents. As part of our core mission, we are responsible for the municipality's shared GIS platform, management of the municipality's base data, and assisting operations with city analysis. We provide data, automation, and analysis to ensure the best possible decision support. The demand for our services is increasing, and we play an important role in the work of digitization and streamlining operational processes, serving as a support resource for the entire municipal group.
