Unit Manager for the Environmental Supervision Department

The mission of the Environmental and Climate Committee is to drive the city's environmental work and protect human health and the environment. In practice, this means that the Environmental Administration drives and coordinates the city's work within the ecological dimension of sustainable development and supports and promotes the implementation of the city's environmental and climate programs and the use of the city's environmental management system. Additionally, we have a supervisory role responsible for oversight, assessment, and control according to, among other things, the Environmental Code, as well as food, alcohol, and tobacco laws. This is also aimed at protecting human health and the environment. More information about the Environmental Administration and the City of Gothenburg can be found at www.goteborg.se (https://www.goteborg.se).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The mission of the Environmental Supervision Department is to perform regulatory duties supported by the Environmental Code. Through our mission, we contribute to sustainable development of the city and to an ecologically sustainable development of the business sector. The goal is to get companies and other operations to take responsibility for their impact on human health and the environment. We continuously develop our working methods to ensure that our supervision has the greatest possible effect and supports those we are here for. The department consists of four units responsible for the city's Environmental Code supervision. We are now looking for a unit manager for the department.

You will be the direct manager for approximately 20 employees and will be responsible for operations, personnel, finances, and work environment. You will be part of the department's management team and have an overall responsibility to work with the department head and your three unit manager colleagues to develop and run a professional operation.

The Environmental Administration is located in our beautifully renovated premises in a historic building on Karl Johansgatan in Majorna, and we can offer you a workplace in development and with a forward-looking spirit. We have engaged employees with broad, deep, and varied competencies. We offer employee benefits such as flexible working hours, vacation exchange, wellness grants, and cycling benefits.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with a relevant university degree and experience working as a manager or in another leadership role that the employer deems equivalent, preferably in a politically governed organization. Experience in development and/or change work is an advantage, and we would like you to have knowledge and experience in the environmental field, such as work with the Environmental Code. Experience in regulatory duties and systematic business development and project management is also advantageous.

Your personal competencies are important for succeeding in the role of unit manager, and therefore we see that you can effectively identify and analyze the core of a problem and propose possible solutions. You see opportunities for change and create situations where new ideas and proposals can develop. You listen to others to understand their needs and work for cohesion in the team, viewing failures as learning opportunities and creating space for dialogue. You are motivated by clearly defined goals and have the ability to translate these into concrete actions. With a focus on the goal, you can reprioritize work when conditions or needs change. You follow up and report on results and goal fulfillment. You can bring enthusiasm and energy through persuasive arguments that encourage good performance, team spirit, and increased motivation. You stand by decisions made and can convey uncomfortable messages when necessary.

OTHER

Selection will take place on an ongoing basis, so we would like to receive your application as soon as possible, but no later than May 1. We will conduct the first round of interviews during week 19. We apply the City of Gothenburg's leadership criteria in the assessment of applicants. The final candidate will undergo a full-day test at the City of Gothenburg's Assessment Center.
