Your tasks

The City of Västerås has volunteers organized in an emergency group within its crisis and war organization. The emergency group consists of individuals with various competencies to assist during crises in Västerås and surrounding areas. This can involve weather-dependent crises such as floods and snowstorms, as well as major fires, terrorist acts, or conflicts.

As logistics support, you will become part of the Västerås City emergency group and can train to become a minibus driver or logistician. As a driver, your main task is to assist with the transportation of materials and people. As a logistician, you will assist in a staff and with transport management. In an emergency group, there can be many different tasks, and sometimes you simply have to be ready to solve what the crisis requires, being flexible and helping with various tasks. In a real operation, you will be provided with protective clothing from the City of Västerås.

Current course dates

The training for minibus drivers consists of two parts:

• GU Minibus Götabro (outside Kumla) August 11-13, 2025 August 13-15, 2025 September 16-18, 2025 September 19-21, 2025
• GU Trailer Marma July 31-August 1, 2025 Götabro (outside Kumla) November 15-16, 2025

The training for logisticians consists of one part:

• Civil Logistician Basic Kosta July 22-24, 2025

Registration must be completed at least six weeks before the course starts.

Your qualifications

We are looking for someone who is subject to total defense obligations and has a driver's license with at least category B. You are a Swedish citizen and a member of Bilkåren or FAK (Voluntary Automobile Corps) and reside in Västerås or nearby, with a maximum travel time of 60 minutes.

Other information

In connection with the interview, you will need to verify your citizenship. You can do this with a passport or a personal certificate along with an ID document. If you are not a citizen of Sweden, the EU, EEA, or Switzerland, you must present a valid work permit or be exempt from the requirement to have a work permit.
